I was thinking it might be interesting to see everyone list their top 5 best reads of 2014.

Mine, in no particular order are: (sorry about not using links but the app won't let me)

1. I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes
2. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
3. The Cutting by James Hayman
4. Mr Mercedes by Stephen King
5. Outback Ghost by Rachael Johns

Chris Haught (haughtc) My favorites were

1. Skin Game by Jim Butcher
2. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
3. The Martian by Andy Weir
4. Half a King by Joe Abercrombie
5. A Betrayal in Winter by Daniel Abraham
6. The Riyria Revelations: Theft of Swords, Rise of Empire, Heir of Novron by Michael J. Sullivan

The first half of that series were actually re-reads, but I included them as part of the whole.

Wow, such a diverse group of books between everyone. How fascinating is it that we all love such different things?

I had exactly the same reaction

I'm trying to work up the courage to tackle Crime and Punishment one day. I've always heard such good things about it.

The Book Thief almost made it into my top 5. It would probably have been number 6 if it had been a top 6 list :-)

I love the Harry Dresden series too Chris but have only read the first three books so far. I really need to get cracking on the rest I think.

Cindy (BKind2Books) (bkind2books) Hands down - Skin Game was my favorite novel of the year (I was bummed that it didn't get best novel, never mind best scifi/fantasy, in the Goodreads voting for 2014).

Oh that really makes me want to get through this series even more now. I have about 9 of them on audio already so might make it a priority to listen to them back to back instead of finishing the Game of Thrones series as planned.
