Sorry for the delay. Talking to my stepson about what's happening in Texas with the virus response.

Anyway, one of the questions that the author asked others is how much time has any of us spent truly alone. Most of the responses were surprisingly short. As I thought about it, I haven't had much time to be truly alone since acquiring a family and staying married for the last 35 years! How about you all? What's the longest period of time you've been able to be in complete solitude?

I would say my time alone is also surprisingly short. Even before kids, there was a spouse, work colleagues, friends, family, the dog..........etc.
I seriously cannot even remember the last time I was fully alone, but I'm sure it was a very brief period of time like when I might have been home and the kids in school. However, having one teenage son still at home, it is sort of like being alone. :-)

Several years ago I found myself, due to a matter of different circumstances, up in the north woods for two weeks.
No T.V., no internet, no cell service, poor radio reception, no one else around. (I kept an eye out for thieving hermits and locked the cabin every time I went out - there were rumors).
I read, kayaked, canoed, hiked, and starting about the fourth night I started writing. By the end of the two weeks I had sheets of paper full of memories that became a book. I don't think I could have done it without the solitude and thinking.
Ever since, I look forward to those weeks at a time of quiet.
Two weeks is about as much time as I can take.

That's a rare and unique experience. I've probably only been alone for the 12 hours (at night) that kids spend at sleepovers. Even on solo hikes, I'm usually where I might come across other people. I'm definitely not much of a writer, but wonder what would happen to me on the 4th night of a two week period of time alone.

I second Linda's comment. Thank you, Tom for moderating this discussion board this week. Even though we can't be together it is nice to have a way to converse about the book.

With a small group like this maybe we can try a Facetime, or a Facebook Live if we are still house-hermits next month.
Although, my April selection was from the daytime book group, so I may not be able to join.
