I enjoy a really wide variety of genres, and I have a bit of a book buying addiction - I currently own over 700 books that I haven’t read yet...but can’t help buying more 😅. hiking, or better long distance walking, sure is very good for all health, physial and mental. I used to do long distance paths in the UK, like the Two Morrs Way, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, the Coast to Coast Path and a lot of the smaller ones and some of my own planning.
It kept me fit into pension age and even though I do not carry a 40 pound backpack with provisions, sleeping bag and tent together with some spare clothes around, I still am very fit and walk whenever I have the opportunity.
Walking gets you to appreciate the small changes on the way, how the pattern of vegetation changes, what wildlife/birds you see and hear and of course the vistas you find from vantage points, all of that calms the mind and gives you emotional balance.
