A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail perhaps?

that also is excellent (but I've read it).

Maybe everyone has read this book, but Rachel Carson's The Sea Around Us is so wonderful. I read it over and over again, especially on trips to Maine where she did a lot of her research.

Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopard

I was also thinking about nominating the Sand County Almanac, Jennifer - especially after watching some video about him, brought on by reading the Dec. BOTM, Fire Season. Considering it's an almanac, starting it in January seems fitting. :)

Faith of Cranes by Hank Lentfer looks like a beautiful book.

Now we will have too many good books for voting. I just heard of this one and love the concept of it since we chase tiger beetles here at home and photograph them (and have the latest recorded sighting of one species here but then we only have seen two species here). But ANYHOW, this is one of the Guardian's top 10 nature books of the year. I'll be reading it soon whatever happens. I need tiger beetle tips.

Yes! As a citizen scientist who also contributes beetle observations & photos, I'll also be reading this regardless. My vote will be for this book.

Thank you for your kind words Andree! I was just admiring your blog. You've written that you're living your dream. Well, it sounds like you are living my dream too. (Hiking, photography, social engagement with the community, baking, renovating, & encounters with nature... what more could you ask for?)

My goal for 2015 is to start blogging about our ento discoveries and mini-travels to nearby parks and trails. This is part of why I've joined the Nature Lit group: to read inspiring writing and meet like-minded people.

I'm glad you reminded me about Diary of a Citizen Scientist. Even if we don't read it here, I've made a point to get my hands on it!
