We have decided on our first buddy read - about 5 of us have agreed that we want to start reading The Bell Jar on January 3, and Ariel by Sylvia Plath on January 2. Three weeks plus more or less 3 days or so for The Bell Jar, and 1 or 2 poems per weekend for Ariel until it is finished. The thread for The Bell Jar is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
The proposed reading schedule for The Bell Jar is as follows:
EDITED ON JAN 2 2015
03/01/2015 - 04/01/2015 - Chapters 1 to 7
05/01/2015 - 08/01/2015 - Chapters 8 to 13
09/01/2015 - 14/01/2015 - Chapters 14 to 20 and overall themes
The thread for Ariel is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
The Ariel discussion will start January 2, 2015.
Four members of the group have decided to read Dear Life by Alice Munro. Starting date Jan 11. Here's the discussion thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...Anyone else who is interested to join us is most welcome.
Three of us (Proustitute, Kris, and yrs truly) will be starting Martha Quest by Doris Lessing on January 1, with the intention of reading the entire Children of Violence series over the course of the year. No set schedule yet, as we've decided to try MQ first before committing to the rest. Check out the discussion here.
A few of us will be starting Dorothy Richardson's Pilgrimage towards the end of the month (depending on how prior reads go)
A few of us will be reading The Joys of Motherhoodby Buchi Emecheta in mid-January. Here is the discussion thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
So far a couple of us, Kris and I, plan to start Christa Wolf's Cassandra starting in very early January, around the 2nd or 5th... It is not a long book. Here is the link for that read.

A group will be reading and discussing Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion. We plan to make this a slow, informal read. There is no schedule. Instead, participants can post comments in the following thread when they've read any of the essays: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... Participants can read one essay or the entire volume. The thread is opening on January 1, 2015, and the discussion will take place throughout the year.
