I was supposed to read this in school, but I read the spark notes instead (high school gets busy!). It's officially been long enough to try again.

I'm going to be joining you on this one Kayla! Totally excited to finally be getting around to this :D
I also want to read this book but I think i will keep it for the banned book's week because I have no idea for this week. But it seems to be very good =)
Johanna, if you decide you want to read this book for this week (title with a number), I know a ton of the most challenged/banned books for that week.
This book is amazing because it predicts so many things about the future that have already come true (if I remember correctly)
Johanna wrote: "Lora: okay I will read this one with you and pick a book frome your list for banned book's week ^^"Great! Just let me know/poke at me when you would like a list of banned books :D
One of those books I've been meaning to read but never actually got around to reading. So excited to start!
Been on my shelf for ages, your enthusiasm is contagious so I guess I'll be adding this to my numbers week!
I read this several centuries ago, back when I was in high school. I may have to find my copy and give it another read.
I just re-read it this fall and really enjoyed it! I think I'm able to appreciate it much more now than I was 30 years ago when I read it for the first time.
It's funny because for most of my life I have loved reading, but I have rarely enjoyed any of the books we were assigned to read in English class back in school... This is not one I was ever assigned, but I have been considering reading it for the initials week.I'm a bit hesitant to try it, but my other options for the initials "RB" seem to either be horror/thriller or very long high fantasy novels, none of which are my cup of tea.
Looking forward to seeing what you think of this!!
I would have absolutely loved this book if I wasn't spoiled of the ending. :/Avoid spoilers at all costs!
I already do, don't worry :P
Is that The Little Prince in your profile picture? I love that book!

Why, yes it is. It's my favorite! :)
Like many of you, I am re-reading this book. I too had to read it in high school, I think in the 9th grade, and while I recall that I enjoyed the book very much at that time, I feel that I will get more out of it today. Good luck everyone and happy reading!
I've decided to read this for week 5 as well. From all the reviews and your comments, I'm really excited to start reading! :)
I'm really considering reading this one. I was also one of those kids who read the notes for the book rather than reading the whole thing in school. =) It just didn't really interest me back then. But my husband loves it and everyone talks about it so now I'm thinking I made a dumb choice and waited too long to read it. I was considering saving it for the banned book challenge too but maybe a change of mind is at hand.
I never had to read this book in high school, but I love Ray Bradbury so I read it on my own a few years out. So glad I did! It's not my favorite of his works, but it's my favorite dystopia. Not that I'm biased or anything. ;)I would read it again for this week, but I have to read 1984 to make up for another gaping hole in my literary education. :3
Wow, what a timely book, in my opinion. I often consider that our current society (the West in general) has lost touch with nature and human connection/communication. In my day-to-day experiences, so many people don’t know how to be civil and to have a conversation without referencing their iPhone, android, iPad, etc. We are all too busy to “stop and smell the roses” so to speak. Bradbury was way ahead of his time with this book. I am glad that I chose to revisit this book after 20 years. If you haven’t read it yet, please do!
I read this (more or less) when I was in high school. I really need to go back to it and read it again sometime... I chose Ready Player One for this category, so maybe I can slide it in somewhere else.
There is also an audiobook for the book on youtube. Just in case, anyone gets a headache reading too much.
Yeah I tend to have to use audiobooks mostly because of my drive to work... I have about 1.5-2 hours a day for driving so plenty of time to do them... most of the books ive 'read' this year have had to be audiobooks. Thankfully most of the books on my list have them.
I just finished it! I capped it with a 5 minute thug notes video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-IcP...), which rounded out my analysis quite nicely.
Steven wrote: "Dude... that review..."Please tell me you've seen thug notes before, and if not that you enjoyed it. I'm so in love with that channel. It's especially nice when it points out themes I might not have caught otherwise.
I'm definitely going to have to look at a few more of those. I feel he was pretty well spot on in his own way. I really enjoyed it actually.

On the second part "The Sieve and the Sand" few pages in there is a sentence: "We've started and won two atomic wars since 2022." BUT on the part 2 of 5 youtube audiobook the same sentence is: ""We've started and won two atomic wars since 1990." Anyone else catch that?
I tried to read this book years ago, and couldn't get into it. Hoping my tastes have matured a bit this time around!
So I pretty much devoured this book in one sitting last night. It was interesting to say the very least. I was a little amazed at how much Bradbury wrote that rings true for today.
I know there is still what, 6 days left of this challenge so I won't say much more to spoil the book because this is an easy one to blurt out everything but it definitely makes you stop and examine the world
Wow. That censorship though! This isn't a book you want to read for some lighthearted fun. This one makes you think about your life. I loved Bradbury's near psychic predictions about how technology will drive a wedge between us, and commercialism will take over every aspect of our lives. And don't even get me started on the imagery and prose!
Heh pretty much just wrote my review!
Ok! Sorry for the delay, work kept me busy. I just finished reading the book. This book was really confusing in the beginning as I'm not so familiar with sci-fi type lit, but it became amazing and incredibly thought provoking after the first chapter.
I read the book with my boyfriend, and surprisingly he has a much different reaction to the book's theories than I do. I haven't written a review yet, as I'm still trying to decipher my reaction to the book's premise and battle it out in my head, but I give this 5 stars.
Let me know if any of you guys want to discuss. I don't want to mention things and spoil anything for those who aren't finished!
I finally finished (I don't think I'm behind, but I really feel like it, haha.) I'm really glad I read this now, though I definitely understand why I didn't when I was in high school. I love the concept and I really loved/related to Montag.
I started this challenge very late so I'm coming back to finish this week now, and chose this book. I don't know why I've never read it before. It sounds like something I'd like. Starting it today!
I read this one, I loved this one, I treasured this one. *sigh* So amazing! It was actually kind of creepy because I could totally see our future being like this.
I'm glad you liked it! It is such a good book even though it can me you freak about at little about the direction our world is taking.
Yeah, it makes me glad that I found this challenge so I can be motivated to spend more time reading and less watching tv and mindlessly web surfing.
