Four women are sent into a mysterious region where strange things happen to research what is going on there. The story is told in the first person from the perspective of the biologist. I usually have a lot of patience for not understanding what is going on in a story, but only if there is eventually some moment of revelation. I don't need all the questions answered to enjoy a book, but this book left my more confused at the end then at the beginning. It felt like a combination of Twin Peaks, 2001, and Lost to me. Reading the description of the next book in the series, I think that eventually the reader will have an inkling of what is going on here, but not in this book. It was done well and if you like a book that is open to interpretation, this might be the book for you. But in my current book mood, I was not able to follow and concentrate enough to appreciate it.
