Tell us what books to avoid so we don't make the same mistake!

Stay away from Graceling. It has a horrible message and sex scenes. Not something I want to read!

message 2: by Joey (new)

Joey | 113 comments Agreed Emily. I haven’t heard a lot of good things about that book.
Stay away from Allegiant. The first two were good but I despise that one. It ruined everything.

Emily (I'll be gone except for book updates for awhile) | 263 comments Mod
Is that part of the Divergence series? I read the first book in January but probably not going to finish the series.

message 4: by Joey (new)

Joey | 113 comments Im sorry that bothered you Shine. I loved that book, but I read an edited version of it.

message 5: by Joey (new)

Joey | 113 comments Oh and Emily, it is. It’s the third book in the series

Emily (I'll be gone except for book updates for awhile) | 263 comments Mod
I didn't read an edited version, but I cant say I remember that much cussing. But it was a while ago that I read it so it could have had a lot :/

message 7: by Joey (new)

Joey | 113 comments Oh wait... I only read part of it edited. Lol. My brother was reading it and editing it and then he was reading it super slow so I just dove in. I don’t remember a ton of language but the review I wrote said there was a decent amount. Lol, what would I do without my reviews? 😂

Emily (I'll be gone except for book updates for awhile) | 263 comments Mod
What would any of us do with your reviews Joey? Lol
You have older brothers? I assumed you were the oldest for some reason lol

message 9: by Joey (new)

Joey | 113 comments Lol Emily.
Yeah! I have three older brothers and a younger one! And three sisters too...

Emily (I'll be gone except for book updates for awhile) | 263 comments Mod
Wow lol that's a lot of sibling

message 11: by Joey (new)

Joey | 113 comments Yeahhh 😂

message 12: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) I don't remember a lot of language in there either. But I read it like two and a half years ago, so who knows?
You're so right, what would we do?

message 13: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) I have four siblings, and my dad is dating someone with two daughters, so it's possible I could end up having six sisters!! They're all girls!! Lol

Emily (I'll be gone except for book updates for awhile) | 263 comments Mod
Sister are easier that brothers I think but maybe that's just cause I'm a girl lol

message 15: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Lol But everyone wants a brother at some point. For protective reasons. It's no fun having to play that part as a girl... So, I'm not jealous of you guys, boys! Lol

message 16: by Kacie (new)

Kacie I think sisters are easier than brothers too lol. I have only 2 sisters and then 4 brothers.

message 17: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Yeah, cool!

message 18: by Olly (new)

Olly Williams | 21 comments hey I'd definitely not recommend 'A Thousand Leagues Under The Sea' ... literally it felt like a chore reading it

message 19: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) I'm not saying that I don't love all my sisters, it's just that I'm the oldest, so I have to play the protective role all the time and I DON'T LIKE IT!! Lol I'd do anything for them, though.

message 20: by Olly (new)

Olly Williams | 21 comments I have 1 brother who is 19 and one sister who is 26

message 21: by Joey (new)

Joey | 113 comments Brothers are better ✌️

message 22: by Joey (new)

Joey | 113 comments 😜

message 23: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Haha Lol, wonder why you'd think that...

message 24: by Olly (new)

Olly Williams | 21 comments I do prefer my lovely sisters she's an inspiration. my brother is just a moody hormonal uni student ;)

Emily (I'll be gone except for book updates for awhile) | 263 comments Mod
I'm the fourth of six kids, two sisters and three brothers.

I will, Shine!

message 26: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) I have one sister who's older, but I don't see her very often.

Silver Snapdragon | 58 comments I really did not like Frankenstein, The Scarlet Letter, or The Invisible Man. They were all kind depressing, weird and altogether not worth it. (Also Call of the Wild was depressing to me. I didn’t not like that book at all.) but they really didn’t have big content problems, thankfully!
Fairest does have bad content though. My mom read it and told me, so I’m steering clear of that one! (Plus it’s probably super depressing as well.)

message 28: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) I didn't like Frankenstein either! And The Invisible Man was very disappointing.

message 29: by lyssa ☆ (new)

lyssa ☆ (a1yssa3) rats, because I'm reading Frankenstein right now..lol

message 30: by Karin (new)

Karin Emily wrote: "Is that part of the Divergence series? I read the first book in January but probably not going to finish the series."

Yes, the third book is badly written and ruins the whole series.

message 31: by Karin (new)

Karin Avoid Mafia Princess by Nikki Kitchen, which isn't the more well known book by that title. Aside from a few sex scenes, it is very badly written, and the author is a Mormon and claims to be very devout at the end of the book, so I am not sure why she put in the sex scenes with two unmarried teens. It is not a Christian novel, though.

message 32: by Joey (new)

Joey | 113 comments Yeah, Frankenstein sucked pretty bad.
Wow, that sounds horrible Karin.

message 33: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) It did!

Emily (I'll be gone except for book updates for awhile) | 263 comments Mod
Stay away from The Selection. Its kinda like fast food, it sucks for you but you want more. But overall it has inappropriate stuff and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

message 35: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Noted!

Emily (I'll be gone except for book updates for awhile) | 263 comments Mod
If your curious about it, just imagine the Bachelor and Hunger Games had a baby and named it The Selection. Lol

message 37: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Lol Okay! 🤣🤣

message 38: by Joey (new)

Joey | 113 comments 😂 i see those books all the time Emily but I’ve known about the inappropriate content so I’ve been avoiding them like the plague

message 39: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Haha, same!

message 40: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) #QuarantinedfromSelection

message 42: by lyssa ☆ (new)

lyssa ☆ (a1yssa3) I've read them..there were a few scenes and mild language, but I just skipped over that. Overall, I thought they were good...What did you not like?

Emily (I'll be gone except for book updates for awhile) | 263 comments Mod
I didn't hate them, sorry if it came across that way. I just felt like the characters were petty and a lot like reality TV shows.

message 44: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Yeah, I've heard that too.

message 45: by lucy Ü (new)

lucy Ü (lucyrodriguez) personally, i say stay away from the Twilight series
maybe it's just not my cup of tea
but i also found the fourth novel to have a really graphic scene & my mom got upset at me for reading it

Silver Snapdragon | 58 comments I’m with you. I know that it wouldn’t be good for me to read it. I know it’s fine for many people, but I have a weakness in areas that those books are heavy in.

message 47: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) I'm not allowed to read them. Lol It was like my mom's guilty pleasure, but now she won't read or watch them, and won't let me.
