I haven't read any Cassandra Clare's series yet and heard the best reviews for this one. Do you have to read the Mortal Instruments first or does it not matter?

There's an author recommended order on Riveted that I'm going off of, and it starts with reading the first 3 books of MI, then reading ID.

the thing about Cassandra Clare’s books is that all of them kind of intersect in some way. some people recommend reading them in publication order, but you don’t necessarily have to read them like that. several BookTubers have videos on this subject.
