As anyone who has dove into this book knows, Ms. Young tends to employ many recurring motifs. These include the "dead moon", rattling boxes of bones, the colors rose, gold, and green (I think that's right?), tearing out one's hair, among many others. I'd like to use this topic to catalog and discuss these motifs.

I seem to recall there being several instances of "mother-of-pearl", but flipping through my copy just now I couldn't find a single one so perhaps I'm making it up. I definitely recall whirling and whirlpools. And reality/dreaming as a recurring contrast.
Will explore my copy further and report back.
if you search the Google pdf of #MissMacIntoshMyDarling you will find mother -of -pearl on page 392.
We had a small group reading on Twitter. Do check out #MissMacIntoshMyDarling #MargueriteYoung #MYoung2019
The spiral pops up repeatedly in different disguises:Spiral, whirlpool, nautilus, turban, "winding", whirlwind... others?
