I see plenty of books on DID/MPD, but none on non-trauma multiples, natural multiples.

several_cats | 1 comments Are you looking for fiction or nonfiction?

[I know this thread is a bit old, but maybe my reply will find someone anyways.]

TheAetherSystem | 2 comments Yes! And oftentimes i'll read and it'll trigger someone...

Bookish | 17 comments There arent any because trauma is the only cause of multiplicity. There's quite a lot about people discovering major trauma through flashbacks, and there's a small number about people whose early experiences were distressing but not the kind of things generally thought of as trauma. The Final Face of Eve is very good - she does eventually come to an understanding of her early years and how her personalities it developed - and why - but it takes decades. One I haven't read is Herschel Walker's, he states he was not abused but the violent bullying by other children certainly sounds like it to me.

Astraea (astraeagroup) | 12 comments There was a time when homosexuality was supposed to be caused by the examples set by a dominating mother and a weak or absent father. Autism was once believed to be a flight from reality caused by unfeeling or inexpressive "refrigerator" parents. Schizophrenia was supposedly rooted in early childhood trauma or caused by parental abuse or neglect. Modern psychiatry is just emerging from a forty-year phase of belief that all mental illness is caused by chemical imbalances and can only be cured or maintained with medication.

They are just beginning to understand that human cultures should be acknowledged and respected on their own terms instead of applying a certain circumscribed set of mainstream western standards to everyone.

The truth about human mental conditions, including multiplicity, is still not known and is barely beginning to be addressed. Modern psychiatry must acknowledge that reality is a great deal more than their limited definitions.

BigBlueCat | 1 comments I know this group and thread are pretty much dead, however, I’d like to point out that a lot of plural characters are often not intended to be plural, and are rather plural-coded. This sucks, but also.. kind of doesn’t? What I mean is, it’s easier to find accidental plural characters that are good representation. Sadly though, there again doesn’t seem to be much books about/including multiplicity that are especially known, even if accidental representation. :/ I also wish there was more.
