Book Snails Book Group discussion

Hello fellow snails! There's some interest in doing a snail readathon, thanks to our leader, Allison. So I created a thread for us to come up with ideas and a plan. This would be our own thon, separate from Dewey's 24 hr Readathon, which is Saturday the 25th. We have a discussion thread for that one here... https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

So some ideas... we could pick a certain timeframe on a particular day or even over the course of a few days or a week. Or we could pick a full day just like Dewey's. The goal would be to read as much as you can in the timeframe chosen. You can track your progress however you like, by pages or chapters. We can use this folder, then, to talk about what we're reading and our progress. We can also post some fun questions to answer for when you want a break.

Other ideas/thoughts?

I think doing it over a period of time, like a week, would be good. Would give people something to do while at home instead of lamenting how we can't be out and about?

I’m trying to wrap up two of my books before starting A Feast for Crows and then I wanna try to blow through that one as fast as I can.

I too like the idea of over a week.

Hi, I’m new here and have never done a readathon. I vote for the idea of reading over a week also because it seems less daunting.

The week-long Read-a-thon seems most ideal to me. I think it might be cool to have an event with a fun corresponding point or tracking system. (Not to compete with other members, of course, but to gauge exactly how much reading is being done and progress made. Dewey’s participants also track their progress.) Perhaps most of the reading is completely up to each member and bonus "points" for themed reading? Too much trouble? Yay or nay any ideas, please, friends!! No hurt feelings over it. Also, I'm thinking our Read-a-thon could start when Dewey’s starts (on Saturday, April 25th) and go until the next Saturday.

Bonus points for certain genres, Candace! What say the group?

Yes, I think that's what we have decided, Fred. A week-long Quarantine Read-a-thon starting at midnight Saturday, April 25th!! More details coming soon. The Calvin and Hobbes collection should fit in nicely with a graphic novel or cartoon genre challenge!! Go for it 😉
