Vickie (bookfan4ever) Hello fellow snails! There's some interest in doing a snail readathon, thanks to our leader, Allison. So I created a thread for us to come up with ideas and a plan. This would be our own thon, separate from Dewey's 24 hr Readathon, which is Saturday the 25th. We have a discussion thread for that one here... https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

So some ideas... we could pick a certain timeframe on a particular day or even over the course of a few days or a week. Or we could pick a full day just like Dewey's. The goal would be to read as much as you can in the timeframe chosen. You can track your progress however you like, by pages or chapters. We can use this folder, then, to talk about what we're reading and our progress. We can also post some fun questions to answer for when you want a break.

Other ideas/thoughts?

I think doing it over a period of time, like a week, would be good. Would give people something to do while at home instead of lamenting how we can't be out and about?

I’d be up for a week long timeframe...
I’m trying to wrap up two of my books before starting A Feast for Crows and then I wanna try to blow through that one as fast as I can.

I too like the idea of over a week.

Siulan | 12 comments Hi, I’m new here and have never done a readathon. I vote for the idea of reading over a week also because it seems less daunting.
Cheers

Hi and welcome, Siulan.

Candace (candywilliams) | 491 comments Will it be a certain genre, or what? I'm in for a week, too.

Usually everyone picks their own reading material.

Thank you, Vickie Snail, for creating this space for ideas.

The week-long Read-a-thon seems most ideal to me. I think it might be cool to have an event with a fun corresponding point or tracking system. (Not to compete with other members, of course, but to gauge exactly how much reading is being done and progress made. Dewey’s participants also track their progress.) Perhaps most of the reading is completely up to each member and bonus "points" for themed reading? Too much trouble? Yay or nay any ideas, please, friends!! No hurt feelings over it. Also, I'm thinking our Read-a-thon could start when Dewey’s starts (on Saturday, April 25th) and go until the next Saturday.

Bonus points for certain genres, Candace! What say the group?

Welcome, Siulan!! Stay tuned for more information on the group Read-a-thon (and if you have any questions about the upcoming Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-thon, we'll be glad to help you!)

Hi Candace, I just wanted to share with you that I'm reading News of the World to my wife in the evening , and some parts of the story are funny, and we laugh, and that's a good way to end a day! You had recommended it as a book of the month ( don't remember what month), so good on you! Fred of the North

Hi, Fred - I can't wait for the movie version! It's sometime at the end of the year, I don't know what month. Glad you're reading it, and will look forward to your review. - Candace of the Texas

Fred Alexander (tumbleweed984gmailcom) | 134 comments Hi Siulan and welcome to Book Snails! I hope you enjoy this group !

So, we're looking at a week long read-a-thon starting Sat. April 25 ?
Does a Calvin and Hobbes collection fit into any known genre ? I've decided I could use something light hearted .

Yes, I think that's what we have decided, Fred. A week-long Quarantine Read-a-thon starting at midnight Saturday, April 25th!! More details coming soon. The Calvin and Hobbes collection should fit in nicely with a graphic novel or cartoon genre challenge!! Go for it 😉

Candace (candywilliams) | 491 comments Well here's something interesting, and FREE! It's Amazon's World Book Day, where you can get a free book translated from nine different countries. Maybe some might be interested for the readathon.
