I don't know if I missed something or if it was left ambiguous on purpose, but did Alex & Laura ever meet after he left Avilion?

Why did Laura keep being infatuated with him throughout her life - was it a form of escapism, or was there something more?

Personally, I got the impression that she used her memory of who he was when she was younger as a daydream to go to when Richard was tormenting her but I'm interested in knowing what others think!
