This reminds me of a book I found a while ago for another thread. The book was Lightland by Heather McCutchen
Do you think this could be your book too? It was published in 2002.

I think it must have been some adaptation of Pandora's Box or something but all I remember is that the girl opens the box after some time and finds that there's like a whole fantasy world inside, and she falls into it and it's this whole adventure.
I remember the book cover being blue with a white tree on it, and there were ink illustrations inside as well. Please help I've been trying to find this for months and it's driving me insane!!!
