King has been, and will always be, my very favorite author. I've been reading him for 40 years. I pre-order each new book and sometimes even take a vacation day when one comes out so I can read it quickly in one go. I always revisit a while later when I can relish the writing, but that first run through is always for the story!
He is also my favorite Kandice, since I picked up Pet Sematary in the 80's. I am eagerly awaiting If it Bleeds, should be here tomorrow!
I almost hate that King has been labeled a horror writer because his stories are so much more than that. I read King because he does characters and dialogue like no other in my opinion. I love him!

They just don't listen until they realize he wrote The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption and Stand by Me. They are flabergasted!
I hear they plan an adaptation of The Long Walk? I think it will be incredible if done right.I had quite a long dry spell from reading when my kids were younger, so there are quite a few of his works I have never read. That's why I love that the Stephen King Fans group is reading his work chronologically. I can't wait till we get to the books I haven't read yet!

I heard that too, but I think the person who could do it best would be Frank Darabont.
Marlise wrote: "For the screenplay or director or both?"Screenplay for sure, but director could be any number of people. I think Ang Lee would juxtapose beauty on the ugliness of the story. I wish Justin Bateman would direct this as his first feature. His "eye" is terrific and would really lend itself well to the mood.

I agree that he does do characters and dialogue really well, but the I hate the other books because of all the horror in them.

There's also:
The Shawshank Redemption: The Shooting Script
On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft
The Green Mile
Gwendy's Button Box
The Eyes of the Dragon
Gwendy's Button Box
The Colorado Kid
The Talisman
Joyland
Just to name a few.
