I know I have not read enough William Trevor. My first exposure was from his The Story of Lucy Gault. I find I gave it only 3 stars and yet I remember it rather clearly, which *should* mean I liked it better than that. My review says I'd like a more challenging vocabulary. I must have had my high hat on that day. One of the attractions of this author is his prose, that he manages to say so much without over powering you with words. A few seasons back my pick was his After Rain. I keep seeing William Trevor in the various kindle deals emails I get and have managed to pick up some others. I hope to get to him again, sooner rather than later.
Is anyone else a fan?
He's on my TBR list - the two you mentioned and Love and Summer. I generally like Irish authors. I think I'll have to move him up the list!
I have also read Love and Summer. The ones I've picked up via deals are:The Old Boys
Elizabeth Alone
Other People's Worlds
These are all novels. Not too long ago, I saw a collection called Last Stories. I'm keeping my eye out for it, but I have others marked wish list as well.
I only discovered him through the 1001 list. I've read:The Story of Lucy Gault - 3 stars
The Children of Dynmouth - 4 stars
Felicia's Journey - 5 stars
I think he's very good but rather depressing - at least in the three that I've read. I appreciate his books but don't exactly look forward to them...
Rosemary wrote: "I only discovered him through the 1001 list. "Several years ago, in another GR group, I had a chance to read comments from one of the 1001 compilers. He insisted that the list was to help us explore good writers/writing. (I'm paraphrasing.) I would not have found William Trevor left to my own devices.
