Welcome to our May challenge - Read like a lady. This challenge lasts one month and should prepare us for the upcoming book launch of the LadyGang book: “Act Like A Lady” by Keltie Knight, Becca Tobin and Jac Vanek.

Rules
Use any of the options to gain points. Books may only be used once for one task. All book formats are accepted. Minimum page requirement is 100 pages. The challenge goes from May 1 to June 2.

I decided to let people enter as either an individual player, or to play as a team of 3-4 people.

Disclaimer: Don’t worry about there being so many tasks, I know it is impossible to finish all! I just wanted everyone to have a variety of choices so everyone can find a task they enjoy. It's also totally fine to only read one book!

The Options

Option 1: As May 30 is the date of death of one badass woman named Joan of Arc, watch this 3-part Youtube series to gain 10 points per video. Additional 20 points will be added if you take part in the discussion thread.

Option 2: Read books that fit following tasks. 10 points per finished task, 20 bonus points for finishing all.
○ YA book by a WOC
○ a historical fiction book
○ a myth retelling
○ a book from the Reading Woman Award Shortlist found here
○ a feel-good/happy book
○ about a woman who inspires you OR written by a woman who inspires you

Option 3: Spell-Out following dicktionary words. 10 points per letter, 20 bonus points per finished words. A read book can only be used once! An example is included in the spoilers:
(view spoiler)

You can use author's name, title, main characters and book settings to fill the letters.

🐌 Snail-Trail
🐌 Bleak
🐌 Plaguecation
🐌 dicksand
🐌 kelt-down
🐌 sex-cation

Option 4: share a funny/embarrassing story (something you don’t mind sharing) which fits the LG book theme in the story thread. Posting a story gets you 10 points, the best 3 get an additional 20 points (voted by all players).

Every individual player and every teams will have their own threads where they can post their finished books!

I think the first book I'll read is the 4th HP book as I'm currently re-reading them. We can use that for a spell out :) it's a quick read for me even though it has 600 pages - but I usually read them in like 2 or 3 days x)

Kalyn OByrne | 10 comments That sounds good! I have a huge paper due tonight so I will look at books tomorrow and post by tomorrow evening what I am thinking.

I'll actually have to read another book, I was so bored yesterday and here I am today, only having about 150 pages left of HP 4 xD I'll probably start a book for this challenge tomorrow or Sunday ;)

Kalyn OByrne | 10 comments So if we want to do Bleak as our word I have two books that I am for sure going to read the would work for B and L. The Betrothed and Love Without Borders. But I’m sure I could make those work for another word to if want a little bit of a longer word. I feel like the only other word that we could maybe get done is kelt-down. I feel like the words are too long at least for me.

Daniela Zekotic | 59 comments Mod
Yeah the other words are too long. We can go with bleak! I'll have a look for books that mainly work for e, a and k then.

message 8: by Kalyn (new)

Kalyn OByrne | 10 comments And maybe we can leave one letter for now and then who ever reads the other two books faster can do that one

Daniela Zekotic | 59 comments Mod
I'll start with a Stephen King book, that works for K

Heaven Hayward | 10 comments Mod
So to get this straight, we want to read an equivalent of books that spell out Bleak, and not each read books to spell it?

message 11: by Heaven (new)

Heaven Hayward | 10 comments Mod
Because for E I can read The Einstein Prophecy by Robert Masello.

Daniela Zekotic | 59 comments Mod
We want to spell-out the word together :)

message 13: by Kalyn (new)

Kalyn OByrne | 10 comments Okay! Heaven why dont you read that! That sounds perfect!

How's the reading going? I'm only 150 pages into my book, but I have to study a lot so I'm not moving on as quick as I'd like to..

message 16: by Kalyn (new)

Kalyn OByrne | 10 comments I honestly haven't got to my books yet. I've been really busy with school and I've been trying to finish a few other books that I was too far into for the challenge. I finish with classes in a week so once I finish those I will start my books.

I'm about 20 pages in. I'm planning to focus on my book on my day off. I've been working crazy hours.

Heaven Hayward | 10 comments Mod
For A I just finished Finding Glory by Sara Arden. Last name will work, right?
I'm still working on The Einstein Prophecy.

message 19: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Zekotic | 59 comments Mod
Yes, last name works.
I'm halfway through with my book. Reading is not going too well at the moment for me

Daniela Zekotic | 59 comments Mod
I probably will only finish that one book, I'm in such a reading slumb :( also have a lot going on atm with exams being earlier than predicted and our roommate moving out and us having to either find a new roomie or a new flat

message 21: by Kalyn (new)

Kalyn OByrne | 10 comments Okay don’t worry about it. I know I can finish two. Do you think you can Heaven? Finish two?

message 22: by Heaven (new)

Heaven Hayward | 10 comments Mod
Yeah, for sure! My days off keep getting moved on me, but it shouldn't be a problem. What's the end date, again?

message 23: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Zekotic | 59 comments Mod
June 2nd. And it seems like I'm moving flats in 4 days, so yay even less free time xD

message 24: by Kalyn (new)

Kalyn OByrne | 10 comments I finished Love Without Borders this morning for L. I am hoping to read the The Rural Diaries by Hilarie Burton for B by the 2nd.

message 25: by Kalyn (new)

Kalyn OByrne | 10 comments I am so sorry ladies. I won’t be able to finish my last book for the challenge. I’ve had some stuff come up and won’t have time to finish. I am so sorry

Me neither, I had so much going on xD it's save to say we kinda failed our first challenge lol but the next one will be better haha

I'm thinking about a summer challenge which is about educating ourselves about racism and everything that is going on. If you have ideas for reading prompts let me know
