"'Life' wrote a friend of mine, 'is a public performance on the violin, in which you must learn the instrument as you go along.'”I choose this quote because I feel I am learning from experience. My life is definitely not a textbook life. I have learned from mistakes mistakes along the way so that I know how to do it better next time.
At the same token, when, people praise me, I learn what I did right and to perform the same or similar action again in the future.
I am a lifelong learner, and I think of my whole life as school, even if I graduated so many years ago. The book club is part of my adult home school program. 😀 Thank you!
I love the observation, “The true Italy is only to be found through patient observation.” I think so many tourists race through their travels, trying to see everything they can because it may feel like their only chance ... but all that rushing and panicking can obscure the real place, which is where the real growth happens.I also quite like this quote: “I will take you by a dear dirty back way, Miss Honeychurch, and if you bring me luck, we shall have an adventure.” I think I make that bargain with myself every time I travel :)

I have a LOT of highlights and underlines and tabs in this book, so I'll try to pick just a couple that I like.
"Then the pernicious charm of Italy worked on her, and, instead of acquiring information, she began to be happy." -In Santa Croce with No Baedeker
"But, in Italy, where any one who chooses may warm himself in equality, as in the sun, this conception of life vanished. Her senses expanded; she felt that there was no one whom she might not get to like, that social barriers were irremovable, doubtless, but not particularly high. You jump over them just as you jump into a peasant's olive-yard in the Apennines, and he is glad to see you. She returned with new eyes." -from the Cecil as a Humorist chapter
"Life is easy to chronicle, but bewildering to practice. . ." -from How Lucy Faced the External Situation Bravely
