Engaging, creative, and highly readable—I read it in a day! Yes, the first book of a series, but enough closure that one feels satisfied while still looking forward to what comes next. More mysteries to solve and questions, especially about the main characters, to answer. And I will be reading on...

Some of the sections of conversation run a bit long—I know they are critical to building background, exploring possibilities, and solving the mystery, but I found myself skimming a few times. Impatience on my part, I know, but the pacing seemed either headlong action or extended discussions.

The books had a bit of the feel of Kage Baker’s Company series, which I enjoyed and highly recommend.

I really enjoyed this one - it was a quick read and I found it good fun! I'm so intrigued by the dragons who love order, and hope to learn more about them in future books. I loved the concept of the multitudes of parallel worlds, each with a different combination of magical and technological elements and yet similar enough geography that if you know your way around one, you can find your way around the others.

I've already requested the sequel from the library!

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) Loved the dragons, too!

Mary Catelli | 721 comments The complication is figuring out that "order" and "chaos" are technical terms in this -- multiverse.

Brigia It was great fun and I loved the multiverse, the library and the characters. Though I was a bit impatient with the pacing, too. Sometimes it couldn't keep my attention. I'm still going to read the next in the series - a Venice setting looks very promising!

A quick but very fun read, reminding me in tone of the Chronicles of St. Marys series by Jodi Taylor. A bit madcap, a fun bit of worldbuilding, and who doesn't like an intrepid librarian?

I read this when it first came out, but have now gone on to read the next few books in the series. My main complaint with the series is that there is clearly an overall story arc, but it is dribbled out in such TINY increments that I don't necessarily feel compelled to continue much further.

Jay | 9 comments I agree with the above; it lacks pace for me, sometimes - though I was entertained and was motivated enough to keep reading - there were just not enough 'hooks' or pace to keep me really absorbed.

I like the idea of a human dragon - very neat - and I liked the idea of Faes having to keep to their archetype - that was novel and clever.

I couldn't get hold of any of the other titles except for the most recent - The Secret Chapter - which I'm reading now. The story arc doesn't seem to have moved on much, so the dynamics are still a bit slow for me.

Overall though, it's a nice, pleasant bedtime read.

Candace (cprimackqcom) | 9 comments I thought it was a fun and easy read. I probably will continue on to book 2, but only when I need a respite.

I enjoyed the “worlds” building, all the creatures and characters. I am more of a F than a SF fan so I am not surprised that I did not enjoy the robotic creatures so much. I loved loved the dragon ( Was his name Ky?) more than the MC.

I am partial to time travel and books about libraries or books so I am surprised I did not love this book more. But I did enjoy it!

The series will continue to be heavily fantasy.

I just finished the second book, which is much more fantasy-like - more about the fae and their chaotic tendencies.

Rafael (laepo) | 30 comments I didn't like it. I couldn't connect with any of the characters and the story was too fast paced for my tastes. Took me a while to get on with it.

Lindsey | 415 comments I kept getting interrupted while reading this one. I finally managed to carve out some time and finished it in two days. It was fun, with just enough substance to feel neither light nor heavy. I agree that I could have used a little more info on The Library and the larger world story. I'll definitely be continuing on to book 2.
