Sometimes, authors decide to write a brave or noble death for either the protagonist or still a really important character and we are all left screaming. What are your thoughts?

Call me heartless, but Caleb wasn't worth Tris' life.

They're heartbreaking because even if you don't like the protagonist, some character that you do like actually does and their reaction just kills you but I mean, as much as I hate it, sometimes it's necessary to the plot.

ReadingBooks24 | 9 comments Just, no. It has to make sense. You can’t kill the character in the last 10 pages to make an impact (Yes alligent, I’m talking about you)

Allegiant near killed me; I have never recovered :d It was a fairly good dystopian tale up till then..

Nikita Not really a fan of when the main character dies at the end. It's just not fair

☀︎El In Oz☀︎ (elinoz) Some ppl say it’s good since it’s not done often but it’s really not. There usually is no reason for it and the attachment is rlly lathe

message 8: by Karina (new)

Karina Flores (karina_celine) I feel like the hero dying is such a realistic thing to happen. I read to escape reality so I don’t really appreciate when my favorite person, whose journey I’ve been apart of, dies.

message 9: by Karina (new)

Karina Flores (karina_celine) Completely agree

☀︎El In Oz☀︎ (elinoz) ikr!!! i've seen some stuff on social media saying those endings should happen more often and i'm just like NO! NO reader enjoys those endings, trust us

message 11: by Karina (new)

Karina Flores (karina_celine) I get people like things when they are unpredictable, but I don’t really like my heart getting ripped out often.

☀︎El In Oz☀︎ (elinoz) Tbh one series did it super well but it made me cry and it was so sad.... I won’t say circumstances or anything but IT WAS SO SAD
like.... the two lovers died together and 😭😭😭

Karina Flores (karina_celine) Lol same!

** spoilers for allegiant** 11 year old me was really pissed, like she SURVIVED THE DEATH SERUM thing, but gets shot afterwards, really?! what was in the author's mind?? yeah i was heartbroken then, but a month after i finished i was just pissed and i still am to this day. i feel like veronica's roth writing went from amazing (divergent) to not so good (carve the mark, fates divide...) and insurgent and allegiant are somewhere in the middle...

message 15: by Karina (new)

Karina Flores (karina_celine) I agree it was a really crappy ending for such a prominent character

☀︎El In Oz☀︎ (elinoz) yeah, her writing isn't as good

For me, the divergent series went downhill, and Tris' death was just the nail on the coffin for me.

I didn't actually enjoy Carve the Mark. It lacked excitement. I mean, Divergent was a pretty cool idea, let's admit it. CtM lacked that

i liked carve the mark when i first read it, but now i don't even remember what's this book about. i also think that if i read it now i wouldn't like it at all

message 19: by Sofia (new)

Sofia (sofloaf) Tris shouldn't have sacrificed herself. Caleb was a piece of trash. Tris actually had a future. That ending was just there to make us cry. Which I did.

KingdomReader The Bird and The Blade by Megan Banning.

DEAR GOD WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME!?!?!?!?
I CRIED FOR A GOOD SOLID 45 MINUTES.
IT STILL HURTS TO THE DAY.

message 21: by Amelie (new)

Amelie | 524 comments Usually protagonist deaths really annoy me, but one exception for me was the one in Our Dark Duet. I felt like the sacrifice we got was meaningful to the story, and it made the book so much more impactful.

Yeah, I agree Amelie. Although I was really sad at how that book ended, that ending was needed...

I enjoyed it my first time reading it and I don't really remember it either.

Samiksha Bhattacharjee (samiksha23) | 4 comments I mean, I dont really remember Tris' death very well tbh but if a character death is emotional and triggers a response for the plot to go forward, i enjoy it, tho it is very sad :(
