Susan Lewallen (susanlewallen) | 804 comments Multiple points of view from characters in completely different settings made the first part of this book slow going for me — and I nearly quit. I’m so glad I did not. About a third of the way through I read the author’s note and acknowledgement and suddenly I got it! I had no idea of the link between the CIA and the publication of Dr. Zhivago. Reading The Secrets We Kept stimulated me to do some investigation to learn more about that. The author has devised a story grounded in detailed research of events that actually happened, but about which there are still enough unknowns to allow her to create an entertaining fiction. Coupled with interesting characters, good pacing, well described setting, and smart prose, this made for an irresistible book — one I’ll remember for a long time. My only complaint was the way she titled the chapters, which I found confusing. Simply naming them with the POV character and supplying the date would have saved me some frustration.

Tien (tiensblurb) | 1641 comments I really enjoyed this one too! Then again, I'm a sucker for anything Russian but this book is set in an interesting time which I haven't read much of in fiction. Not sure about that ending though...

Amy | 13033 comments It’s in my car, and also high on my list. But you know how this goes. Even the books that are numbered in the 20s, you can’t get to you by the time each month changes the tags and challenges. I’m excited to read it though. I predict it will be in 2020.

Glad you enjoyed it too. It may just be the mood I was in, but I thought the ending tied everything up with a nice bow - and I need that right about now. I'm curious what you (did not?) like.

Hope you enjoy it. I just read a bunch of reviews and, as always, there are the lovers and the haters out there. So interesting what attracts someone to a book!
