Stay Home and Read Book Club - Sausalito Library discussion

The dialogue is throwing me off with its modern style. I keep forgetting what era this book is supposed to take place in. They are thrust in the middle of World War II, but the descriptions of the actions don't really transport me there. Any other observations about the writing style?
