Bev (greenginger) | 744 comments Hi
Please feel free to say hi, introduce yourself for the first time or to update us about yourself, especially you old time members. By the way the old thread can still be read.

I am Bev and I am one of your mods. 3 kids, 2 dogs, 2 guinea pigs and 1 hubby.
Book mad.

Excuse me I need to go double up on my blood pressure meds.

Oh, I think most of you know me, Mike (the Paladin)...slayer of evil dragons, soldier of fortune, bon vivant, champion of lost causes, tutelary of the weak, warder of the poor...modest and humble hero?????

Lára | 479 comments When I had my 1st University philosophy class, our teacher just started talking about the topic, without introducing himself. He's so cool, I never missed his class and wanted to be like him - never to introduce myself, but never actually managed to ignore introduction threads, so I'm going to introduce myself, again, but in short and only the present.

24 years old, lots of pets and live plants.
Collecting blank notebooks, books and plants.
Fishkeeping and gardening being my hobbies, as well as observing frogs.
University student (topic A: Indology and Philosophy; topic B: Forest Science), usually "writing my intro" with quotes, so my Goodreads quotes are actually "about me".
Listening to glam rock, pagan folk and darkwave in general.
Not watching tv at all.
Very picky reader.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments Yo! Welcome.

message 6: by Talitha (new)

Talitha (victorian_soul) I'm Talitha, and I've been lurking around here for a year or two. My favorite genres are: fantasy (and all its subgenres- which is why I'm here), historical fiction, and science fiction. In 2014 I read a lot of urban fantasy, a genre I was lukewarm about until I found the Kate Daniels series. Still, fantasy (particularly epic) continues to be my favorite and I love discussing bookish things here with all of you.

Favorite fantasy series: Lord of the Rings, Kingkiller Chronicle, Stormlight Archive, the Damar series (by Robin McKinley), and naturally A Song of Ice and Fire.

I live with a dancing Dorkie (dachshund/yorkie cross), a Schipperke/Kelpie who looks like a toy direwolf (with the same amount of attitude), and my mom (who only reads self help- the outcast of the fantasy-centric family).
My hobbies include reading, gardening, writing, baking, gaming, collecting antiques and/or books, and crafting.

Nice to re-meet/re-acquaint myself with all of you! :)

Hi everyone. I'm a teacher. I love to read and mainly stick with fantasy. I live with three cats.

message 9: by Lioth (new)

Lioth | 63 comments Nice to "meet" you.
What can I say ?...I'm an italian reader who loves fantasy, without a book with mythical beasts or magic and I'll become grumpy in a short time.
I'm with you since last march but I blend with the wallpaper and post sporadically, so I tend to go unnoticed.

May this year brings good books to you all.

message 10: by Ugur (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments Hi all!

welcome to any and everyone...

You know, I'm still "flummoxed" and trying to picture a "toy direwolf".

message 12: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Hi, I'm Elise, and I've been on Goodreads for quite a while now. This is my seventh year I think? Wow. It seems like I just joined up yesterday. Time flies. I love reading fantasy of all types. Epic fantasy is probably my favorite of the subgenres. Other than fantasy, I mostly enjoy reading science fiction, non-fiction and classics.

I'm also an aspiring writer, at least I think so. But I do read more than I write. I'm currently working on my first book, which I'd hopefully like to have published. When it comes to writing, I don't limit my genres. It's whatever story happens to be on my mind at the time, and it could really be anything. Usually it will be something fantasy or sci-fi, but at the moment it's historical fiction.

Other than reading and writing, I also enjoy drawing, computer games, music, and being a YouTube/Netflix junkie :P

message 13: by Martha (new)

Martha (tilla) | 194 comments Welcome. I'm Martha (tilla-the-werwoof in some worlds) and I've been here for years. Some more actively than others depending on how my computer is behaving at the time. Fantasy, sci-Fi and historicals mostly with the occasional memoir thrown in and graphic superhero novels

Since you were wondering this is a pic I used for my senior portrait with Torrie "smiling":
description
Australian Kelpies are said to be part dingo, and with Torrie, I believe it. She's about 40-50 pounds, but compared with a direwolf, she is probably a toy.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments Cool....still opens some interesting possibilities. Toy Saber Tooth Tigers, Toy Woolly Mammoths, gives an entirely new view of the ice age.

message 19: by Nancy (new)

Nancy J Hello to Bev and all... I'm a retired cat mom of 4, married for 49 years to an old geezer (looking in the mirror, he got no bargain either), and we had 2 daughters. We now have 3 grandkids, all grown, and we may be around for great grandkids. I have Lupus, and after months of being seriously ill, I actually began getting better last month and had a good Christmas. It's time to intro myself. I'm very new to fantasy, having only read one---A Song of Ice and Fire, and I have the others to read. After having received a Kindle, I'm SO new to the genre, I'm hoping some of you can steer me to your favorite authors and favorite series, though I'm also wondering about good 'stand alone' books. I was particular wondering about Bernard Cornwell. Stonehenge caught my eye because of my lifetime fascination with its mysterious historical origins. I'll be perusing this site for more ideas of what si going on here. Very nice to be here!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments Hi Nancy, welcome. I'm sure everyone will be glad to recommend their favorites. Feel free to go to my profile (and I'm sure others will say the same) and look at our "book shelves".

Hi Nancy. There are so many excellent choices. Keep tabs on the "What are you reading...?" threads for lots of suggestions.

message 22: by Nancy (new)

Nancy J Thank you, Mike and Helen...your suggestions and welcomes very much appreciated. I'll get better at this! ;)

message 23: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (allrianne) Hi, been a lurking member of the group for a while but thought now was the time to get involved.
I'm a 26 year old maths teacher, I have a little Shih tzu Suzie and a cat called Spock. I enjoy reading, gaming and baking.
I mostly read fantasy, but will dip into YA when I need a lighter read.
My favourite authors are Tolkien and Sanderson, and am currently obsessing over Robin Hobb.

Bev (greenginger) | 744 comments A big hello and welcome to you all. It us lovely to find out a bit about you all. X

message 25: by Warren (new)

Warren (warfitz45) Name is Warren and live in the Heartland of the US of A. My reading is a bit eclectic, and I don't do nearly enough of it. I'll hit a splurge and read everything in my library (or most everything), and then I'll hit a period of no reading, or only short stories. I enjoy epic fantasy, Urban fantasy, some sci-fi if it's not too far out there (go figure, unicorns I'm fine w/, gizmos that bend time/space confuse me). I enjoy audio books for downtime at work (car drives as well).

I have a teenage son (and he's a great kid - go figure!) and have been married for 20 years. My interests range from writing (don't worry, I don't spam the boards w/ my work) to gaming (another hobby I don't get to do nearly enough). Oh, and I have a dog, but it's not a dire wolf, just a chocolate lab and the best dog I've ever had. And a cat, but she only pokes her nose in when she wants to steal my body heat.

My faith is important to me, as is the work I've done over the last few years (I work in social services - but after a myriad of jobs, I took a step back recently to do something a little less stressful, same company just easier workload).

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments Hi Warren, welcome. Looks like we have a bit in common. I think you'll enjoy it here...we'll all do our best to load your "to be read list" down to the point you'll never finish it.

Hello, my name is Tom and I'm a "Good Ole Southern Nerd". I love Fantasy, any kind of Fantasy. I have a long commute to work so I listen to a lot of audio books. I am a very slow reader because I enjoy reading books at a conversational pace. To me I savor the books better like that. Anyway, moving on.

My favorite series' are The Riyria Revelations, The Chronicles of Narnia, Kingkiller Chronicle, Lord of the Rings, Stormlight Archive, The Iron Tower, Chronicles of Siala and Harry Dresden.

Other than that, I’m kind of a boring person.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments Hi, welcome.

Bronwen (bronwenfay) Hi everyone, my name is Bronwen and I live in Luxembourg (originally from Scotland). I live with my two cats and rather large book collection.

I read mostly Fantasy, but occasionally dip into other genres if the blurb sounds interesting.

Nice to meet you all!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments Hi Bronwen, welcome.

message 31: by Elpida (new)

Elpida Hi everyone, my name is Elpida, I live in Greece and read pretty much anything I can get my hands on!! Which was a lot easier to do before I started working full time... Fantasy was always my favourite genre, with favourite authors including Hobb, McKilip, Tolkien, Sanderson, Erikson, Butcher and so many more...

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments Hi, welcome.

message 33: by Yordan (new)

Yordan Zhelyazkov (yordanzh) Woo-hoo! A chance to be on the first page of an introduction topic? I'll take it! 5 years from now I'll be able to point at it and say - "See? I was one of the first ones here!" :P

Of course I'm not, tho. My name is Yordan and I'm just starting my third year in GR and loving it! I'm 27 years old and I've been in love with fantasy and sci-fi ever since my parents started letting me go to the library alone (and for that reason they now almost consider it a "mistake" :P )

When I joined GR however, fantasy slowly started pushing sci-fi aside and now I'm predominantly a fantasy reader. I am doing my best to squeeze a non-fantasy or non-fiction book in between novels every once and a while but fantasy is my main passion so thanks for helping me satisfy it! :)

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Hi everyone, and welcome. ****waving****
Thankyou for being in our group.
I've been a little under the weather...so I'm a little behind.
:)

I'll be a half a century old this year. Love all animals, though I'm down to one cat at this time.
(We may have a weasel too, though.)

Fantasy books are my favorite reading choice, of course, but science fiction comes into play, also.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments A weasel???? A wild one stopping by for meals?

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Yes...seems to be. He's a fast little bugger.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments LOL.

We used to have a lot of stray cats around the house where we live. We used to feed them. One night I looked out and a young opossum was dining on the cat food.

message 40: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Moore Hi, my name is Stephen, I love to read fantasy, I also write it. I thought it was about time I joined a friendly fantasy group... and fell upon you.

Um... Fantasy is my favourite read, but I read across all genres and age ranges, both fiction and non-fiction as the mood takes me.

Outside of books... I'm into music, gaming (mostly rpg's), theatre, movies, and the great outdoors! I look forward to getting to know you all. And happy reading :-)

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Welcome, Stephen!

message 46: by Josh (new)

Josh Hello everyone. My name is Josh. I was never into reading until about six years ago when I was lent Mistborn and I have been hooked ever since. I was drawn to this group because of the monthly book club type thing you do. I feel like it will help intorduce me to a wider spectrum of the genre. Im currently reading book 2 of Daniel Abraham's Dagger and Coin series and loving it. My favorite series so far is the unfinished Stomlight Archives. In fact me and my wife like it so much we have a one year old son named Kaladin. So thanks for having me.

message 47: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) Joe, long time sf&f junkie. Gamemaster of 20+ years of tabletop rpgs. Semi-retired Superhero gaming podcaster. Moderate Stargate/B5 junkie. Hardcore comicbook/epic fantasy fan. Ummm. Casual Anime, furry, astronomy, atomic and space history junkie, science nerd, and well full on massive DORK. Such is my life.

I enjoy a huge range of sf&f novels, short stories, and such. So I'm all over the place these days.

I also have a special place in my heart of bad but earnest works that I love to internally MST3K in good fun.
