Tina (tinamats) | 2665 comments Happy 2015, everyone!

As mentioned in the original thread, this is the reboot of our first introductions thread, as the first one is really, really long and sometimes it's hard to keep track of who said hi to who and all that. Since the new year is the time to start anew, we figured it was just time to have a new and sparking intro thread. =D

If you're new here and you're not sure where to start, this is the first place to say hello. :) You'll find a bunch of friendly book nerds to welcome you here. We hope that you do venture out of the intro thread, join in at any of the discussions, and hopefully even attend a Face to face book discussion. Sounds like a good plan, yes?

If you've been with TFG for a while...well, this is the time to talk about yourself. Haha. Say hi again, introduce yourself, and tell us about your reading habits and your favorite books, and tell us why you decided to unlurk months or years ago. ;)

Hi, welcome to TFG!

message 2: by Pauline (new)

Pauline Lagdameo | 1 comments Hi! I'm Pauline from Alabang. So glad I just found this group and hope I can join in some of the activities this year.

I love historical fiction, especially medieval and ancient history, romance, some chick lit, some adventure (James Rollins, Steve Berry), some time travel and paranormal (not horror!) and cookbooks.

Aiza Angela Nicolas (aiznicolas) | 1 comments hi. i am aiza from laguna. i hope to find new friends here. happy new year to all

message 4: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinamats) | 2665 comments Hi Pauline! Welcome to the group, and I hope you can join our activities this year, too. We have a lot of members in the South, too. =)

Hi Aiza, welcome! Happy 2015! What books do you like to read? :)

message 5: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinamats) | 2665 comments Oh wait, I suppose I should introduce myself, too. =D

Hi, I'm Tina, and I'm one of the administrators in the group. =) I hail from the province of Rizal, by the borders of Pasig and Marikina, which means I should be counted in NCR, but some couriers don't seem to think so. Hehe. Anyway, I read a lot of contemporary romance (for fun and for research), YA, and books by Filipino authors, but I also dabble in other genres every now and then. I started as a mainly YA reader when I joined TFG but now I read from almost everything, depending on the mood. I switch from ebooks to print books all the time, and I used to blog a lot about books but now I sort of stopped. (Trying to revive it haha)

Like I said, I'm one of the admins in the group, but please don't let that make you be scared of me, haha. I only wear my moderator hat when it's necessary, and most of the time, I don't. :D But if you have book club related questions, feel free to contact me! :)

message 6: by George (new)

George Deoso | 1 comments Hi! I'm George, from Quezon City.

I used to be an avid Stephen King and VC Andrews fan, but when I started attending a university I suddenly lost my interest in genre books (especially YA).
These past years I began to love literary fiction (I've got to, since I enrolled for a degree in Literature) and hopefully continue to do so.

A little more something about me:

Most favorite books: Captain Corelli's Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres, The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, and anything written by Margaret Atwood

Most hated book: New Moon (The second book in the Twilight Saga). I don't think anyone needs to ask me why.

And besides reading, I also like writing short stories, playing the piano, and sleeping.

Happy new year everyone!

Honeypie (honeypiegb) | 52 comments Hello, I'm Honeypie! I'm also a member of the Pinoy Reads Pinoy Books, which focuses on, well, Pinoy books (lit, comics, poetry, etc.), and I kinda stumbled upon this one. Last year was my first time to join a book club, and I really enjoyed meeting new people who love reading as much as I do (even more!), and discussing read book, that I want to expand my horizons. Haha!

I hope to join some of the discussions:) happy new year! :)

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello! I'm Lian, and am currently living in Makati. I'm a little bit younger than most of you here, I am only 15 years of age but I still am an avid reader of books.

It would help me so much if you guys can check out my Book Blog on tumblr: http://thebannedauthorwithshadows.tum...

message 9: by Rin (new)

Rin (reenahelene) | 7 comments Hi, I'm Rin :) I'm 17 yrs old, and became a book nerd ever since I was a kid because I was influenced by my mom and friends. I joined TFG last Nov. I've been in Goodreads last year but was only active last November also.

message 10: by Mark John (new)

Mark John Argon (mj_argon) | 1 comments Hello! I'm Mark from Laguna. I'm 20 years old and I only started reading novels by international authors around June last year, which I really wish I should have done years ago since I only read Tagalog novels back then, especially Bob Ong books. I read a lot of YA novels, and I'm also a fan of mystery, but I am open to any genre of books. I'm also new here in goodreads but I always make it a point to update it when I'm reading a new book. I'm a newbie in this group so I hope I could find new friends here. Happy New Year!

message 11: by L (new)

L | 11 comments I'm Lore from Quezon City. I used to be a voracious reader when I was a kid. But I lost my way and am now trying to find my way back. I just joined Goodreads about 2 weeks ago. Then it came to me that in order to really go back to my "reading track", I should challenge myself join a reading group and meet new friends along the way. I'm a sucker for mystery and romance novels but I'm open to try other genres.

message 12: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinamats) | 2665 comments Hi, George! Heh, I didn't like New Moon, too. I hated Breaking Dawn more than I disliked New Moon, though. :P

Hello, Honeypie! Welcome to TFG! We hope to see you in our discussions here as well? :)

Hi, Lian! No worries about being young; we had members who were aged 13 (then again, that was a couple of years ago, so they're your age now, I think :D). Good job on being an avid reader at your age. :)

Hi, Rin! My mom used to feed my book addiction, until I started working =) I hope you'll keep being active.

Hi, Mark! If you want to read more genre books, I suggest you try to read the book of the month in the group. I used to not read other genres other than YA, but the book club taught me to expand my horizons. =D Our book of the month is Navigating Early by Clare Vanderpool - you can check out the discussion thread here.

Hi, Lore! Oooh, good decision. I hope being a member in TFG will help you read more? Joining buddy reads and discussions will help. =)

message 20: by Christine (new)

Christine | 1 comments Hi! I'm Tin :) I'm 30, lives in Rizal, works in Manila, but reaches pretty much everywhere in search of good food, good movies, and yes, good books :-)

I love old classic YA (Narnia, Madeleine L'Engle, all those Newbery Honor Books like Number the Stars and The View from Saturday) -- I grew up on them instead of on Harry Potter or Percy Jackson (again, see aforementioned age hehe). But I have also read Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, and I love them too, but childhood book loves are really just different, i guess. :-)

Nowadays I read pretty much anything, but i'm partial to the soulful/witty/slightly crazy/profound. The last book I read was "Mr Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore", which is pretty cool, as I also once dreamed of working for Google and I love bookstores (especially secondhand ones :-) )

I'm happy to be here and look forward to getting to know you all. See you around! :-)

Hi Zaila! Welcome to the group. =) Good luck with your thesis!

Hi Josemar! Glad to have you aboard. =) There's a LOT of Filipino books out there that's not romance. (Although I do love romance. Hehe) Have you read the graphic novel series Trese? Or if you want some local fantasy/horror/sci-fi, why not try Alternative Alamat: Stories Inspired by Philippine Mythology, or Eliza Victoria's books? :)

message 31: by Ella (new)

Hi Tina! :) Ooooh, those two are my favorites. Currently figuring out Resident Evil REmaster right now. That's where it all started for me; I helped out my dad figure out the Silent Hill puzzles then decided to play it myself!

message 34: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Dana | 7 comments Hi I'm Patricia, and I came to Goodreads to organize my reading collection but I'm having difficulties because of the multitude books I've read. I have read several books but maybe not as much as you. I'm just a poor college girl without enough money to buy those (expensive) books, but oh well, the library saves me until I have my own job and earn my own money. xD
I'm hoping we can all be friends! Feel free to add me and communicate with me :D

Jai (mundanemoiselle) | 2 comments Hi everyone! Jai's the name. I'm 16 and I hail from Pangasinan. I usually read YA books but lately I've been reading romance classics such as Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I'm a big fan of Rick Riordan's works, especially the PJO and HO series. Riordan's demigods are actually the reason why I inhale books right now. I hope to get along with everyone here. :)

Jane | 1 comments Hi! I'm Jane, 18. I'm from La Union. A little too far from everyone. I love sci-fi. But I could read any genre. Just not horror. Please! I'm a chicken. Frustrated writer, singer and dancer. Got major in accounting.

I'm a newbie in this group. Hope we could be friends. :D

message 44: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinamats) | 2665 comments Cate: I remember the first time my brother and I played Resident Evil, I had nightmares from the first zombie attack. I would play it on my own but I'm such a big chicken with horror things. :)) (But I love zombies in fiction, so... haha weird)

Florlee: Hey! I used to have that same dilemma, too - my friends are not as avid readers as I am until I joined this group. Join us for one of the discussions and you'll can find people who will talk books to you all day. :)

Patricia, Stefan: Hi! Just a formal hello here because I already saw your names in other threads. :)

Hi Cathrene! Davao is a place I would love to go back to...and I'm planning to be there on June. :D Love that place the first time I visited! :) Welcome to TFG. :)

Sharelle, Zhaira, Mac: Hi! *waves*

Jai: One of our admins, Ranee, is from Pangasinan, too. =) Have you tried reading any Pride and Prejudice or Jane Eyre remake? :)

Lara: Hello there! I believe the same thing, too. :)

message 46: by Kai (new)

Kai (kaimagicc) | 8 comments Hello everyone!

I'm Kai from Quezon City. I've been with this group for a long time (Dec 27, 2012 to be exact) but I am more of a lurker. Hehe.

Haruki Murakami's works have a huge place in my heart. As for genre, sci-fi, classics, YA, contemporary... well scratch that - anything goes! As long as I find myself reading non-stop, then it's good enough for me.

I currently work at Makati in the IT industry. When I don't read books, I play video games, watch stuff (TV series, anime) and study stuff that usually interests me (currently studying Nihongo).

I hope I could meet some of you in the future. I would love to join F2Fs but usually, my schedule does not permit me. Also, would it be okay if I just listen to the discussions? I'm more of a listening type hehe.

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 122 comments Tina wrote: "Cate: I remember the first time my brother and I played Resident Evil, I had nightmares from the first zombie attack. Hahah, I love zombie fiction too! :) Silent Hill was the game that induced nightmares for me. But I love watching other people play it.

@ Jai - Jane Eyre is my all-time favorite! :)

message 48: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinamats) | 2665 comments Kai: Hello! I think I've seen you around the threads before? :) Welcome to the group, again! Ranee, our other admin, is a huge Murakami fan. =) And yes, you can listen in to the discussions! If you join the F2Fs, you get a newbie pass. One time only, though; but if you talk to the other newbies, it's usually enough because at the next one you attend, you just can't help but speak up, too. :)

Cate: Speaking of zombie fiction - have you read Feed by Mira Grant? :D it's my favorite zombie book (trilogy, really) of all time. :D

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 122 comments Tina wrote: "Cate: Speaking of zombie fiction - have you read Feed by Mira Grant? :D it's my favorite zombie book (trilogy, really) of all time. :D "

No, I haven't yet. But my brother has and he does give it a thumbs up. It's in my Mt. TBR... I'll get to it eventually lol.

I did like Warm Bodies. It's a different kind of zombie fiction. :)

message 50: by K.S. (new)

K.S. | 6 comments Oh, wow. I am pretty excited to have found this group. I remember reading an article by Ambeth Ocampo a few years back where he said that Filipinos are not a reading people...clearly, he didn't have this group in mind when he wrote that. :)

My name is Kay, and I live with my husband and two kids in Anmore, BC, a village northeast of Vancouver. I have been in BC for over fifteen years, but I was born in Bicol, Philippines, and grew up in Taguig. I've recently released my debut novel, the first book in an epic fantasy series, Jaeth's Eye. You can also learn more about it from my publisher's website at www.worldtreepublishing.com.

I'm excited to be a part of this group and am looking forward to joining in on the discussions.
