I want to say that the characters about this book left a lot of be desired. Throughout the years of my book reading, I have encountered wonderful characters who have flaws and are those who are unloveable, but am I the only one who felt that the characters in this book, while some do have tragic backstories, were too two-dimensional? Am I asking for too much for a little character development?

The characters of this book feel as if they have not changed a bit from end to end. And The only piece of character development are uncovered what had gotten them to the place they are now - but still, it doesn't do much for me. Much of Straener's "freaking out" about the culling song is underwhelming, to say the least. Everyone just feels as if this whole thing is normal when it's clearly not and everyone just seems to take this in by stride, which is really strange.
