Loved this retelling of the fairy tale. I remember reading it when I was wee, and it brought those feelings back.
I was a little thrown by the gods in the story, even though it was mentioned a couple times throughout that the gods and goddesses where real people who were known to interact with humans I seemed to have ignored this fact and got thrown by it near the end. But I think this is on me for not realising that the characters were not talking of rumours or long ago interactions with gods and goddesses, but of real 'people'.
