annapi | 5514 comments This YA fantasy had an interesting world with interesting necromantic magic. It's not exactly horror but the necromancy does skirt the edge of it. Young Sabriel is the daughter of the Abhorsen, a magic user who can travel freely between life and the early stages of death before the final ninth gate that crosses into true death, and who trained her in the same arts. When he is trapped by a malevolent spirit, she must leave her school to find and rescue him.

I'm glad I finally got around to reading this. Horror is not my genre, and this might be classified as horror lite, but it's not the type to engender nightmares. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Since this was tagged suspense by 8 people, I have posted it here for the monthly tag.
