Ahmad Ardalan (ahmad_ardalan) | 1 comments Do you guys read Historical fiction novels set in the Middle East? 50's in Iraq, to be more precise, Baghdad? If so The Gardener of Baghdad talks about that period.

message 4: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 108 comments I think the cut off might be WWII, but I'd have to check to be certain. Thanks for the recommendation, Ahmad.

Meri (aussie_bookworm) | 4 comments Hi Sophia, great challenge!! Are you able to post a link to the blog where the challenge is hosted please?

I've only read three historical fiction books so far this year but I'm reading three at the same time at present so expect that number to jump. I also love reading non fiction books like Alison Weir or David Starkey.

Thanks, Debra! I've been doing pretty well particularly catching up on books that have sat there a while.

message 12: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'm working my way through the Horatio Hornblower series this year. Excellent! I'm having trouble finding one of the short stories, "Hornblower and the Hand of Destiny". Of course, it's the first one I need to read to keep to chronological order. I listed the full series in my review here:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

That's great, Jim! Many in my family love the Horatio Hornblower books and pass the books around, but I don't think any of us have that story. It's part of a short story collection that's available on Kindle. It's on the pricey side for the page count, but I guess that's relative to how badly you want it. ;) Here's the link if you're interested in checking it out: http://www.amazon.com/Hornblower-Adde...

message 14: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Thanks, Sophia. Yeah, that's what I was balancing too since I'm just missing the one.

message 15: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 108 comments I usually just add these types to the wish list and hope for a sale or a gift card to come my way. It's so frustrating to miss just the one.
