Like Caroline, both Cutter and Dorian had to figure out how to survive on the streets. Even though they wished she could be doing something else to get by, they understood why she was doing it.
When it comes to selling your body or starving few women would opt for starving. The argument could be made that there were other ways to survive and that is true. They chose not to judge her and I don't either.
In that day and age, there aren’t a lot of options for girls on the streets, especially down by the docks.
I agree; her gender, age and social class left her few to no other options. Horrid, but the way it must have been.
I loved how they didn’t judge her, in fact, respected her for being able to take care of herself. Caroline was between 13-15 years old and there were no options for children raising themselves on the streets.
She also seemed to exercise some choice in the matter, too, deciding for herself when she’d give her body in return for shelter and money.
