I assume it was very daring for the era the book is set in. If someone found out about it, she would be ruined and the wedding would probably have been cancelled.
She obviously didn’t think of the consequences of her actions. Very risqué for that era to go have a one night stand. That whole scene was far fetched to me, but necessary to the story I guess.
Very risky for an unmarried woman to give up her virginity this way. It was quite common, however, for married women during this era to take lovers. I think Pru was so disillusioned about her pending marriage, feeling duped, that she didn’t care. Part of it might have been her own way of punishing George, too.
