I'm sure everyone he arrests claims to be innocent. He probably felt like it was just one more murderer, even though he didn't want to believe that Pru would do such a thing.
He has more than a little cynical view of life. I think he truly wanted to believe she was innocent of the murder, but his life experience was a lot to overcome.
. He is programmed to go with the evidence, so her holding the knife was difficult to overlook. At least right away. Guilty until proven innocent it seemed.
Again, I agree, but I was disappointed that everyone who looked questionable was assumed to be guilty.
I also think it was Carleton’s cynicism that was the driving force preventing him from considering Pru’s innocence. She had much more to lose with him dead and why kill him on her wedding day? He had tunnel vision here and was protecting his fragile heart.
