At first I suspected Pru's father. I figured he may have made some bad investments and needed some money. And since William was his son-in-law, he may have been in on it too. I really didn't think of William being the mastermind of the operation.
I suspected Pru's father too. I thought he and George were in the smuggling together and William too. Pru's father had to have known George's reputation and I thought the marriage was a way to seal the deal in a more permanent manner.
I didn’t really think much about the father. I was more into the relationships than the mystery. The lack of detail with the investigation kept me from being that invested in that whole saga. I just went with the flow, didn’t really analyze anything as I read.
I never thought William had the brains to do that, so I just was along for the ride in this part of the story.
I didn’t think William had the brains either. That final scene, though, exposed how utterly clever and manipulative he was. It explained a lot about a Honoria.
