Hi friends! I hope you are able to join in this group read for July! Shout out below if you plan on reading Kitchens of the Great Midwest this month.

I'd love to hear what you've been cooking during quarantine. Have you tried some new recipes? Made bread? Or are you sticking to sandwiches and cereal? Any new favorites?

Very eager to read this one with you all!

Jennifer | 17 comments I will be joining in for this book. I read The Giver of Stars back in February and love it. During quarantine, I baked some cookies, lol. That was it. Now my mom made some banana bread, brownies, cookies, a chocolate pie (my favorite 😊) and a lot of other yummy treats. I am intrigued with Kitchens of the Great Midwest and am looking forward to it.

Kim Kantor (kimkantor) | 92 comments Left a note on Giver of Stars...I’m reading both books this month but this is my first selection! Seems like a fun book, though it will probably make me hungry!

Kim Kantor (kimkantor) | 92 comments Oops! Forgot to add if I’ve cooked anything. I live in a multi-generational home with my daughter and 3 young grandsons. She does most of the cooking/baking, but I did make a really yummy peach “dump” cake. Notwithstanding the name, it was really good! Not too sweet, but even better with a little whipped cream on top! 🍰🍑

Theresa | 57 comments I will try to get this from the library in time.

Elsa I'm joining in. I cook most days for my family, and feels like a chore most of the time. I downloaded an app called Dinner Spinner from Allrecipes to help spice things up and use the ingredients I have when I fail to plan ahead.

I have a few standbys that we all like: white chicken chili, black beans and rice, "world's best pasta sauce" and tacos. My husband and I enjoy a few recipes that illicit groans from the children such as panang curry and kale and mushroom pasta. Now my mouth is watering... I hope there are recipes in the book!

Karen Reineke | 16 comments I think I am going to give the audio book a try.

Jamie | 14 comments Have this book in paperback sitting on my shelf, and for whatever reason, haven't yet picked it up... maybe this is the push I need to pick it up this month!
And in terms of what I have been cooking during quarantine, some new recipes I have LOVED is Bri McKoy's Lemon Chicken Soup (that you can make super quick in an InstaPot and it makes great leftovers), Amish Baked Oatmeal for a wholesome and warm breakfast or snack, and perfected fresh grapefruit margaritas that we enjoyed for family taco night... which is like every week! :)

I love the idea of Dinner Spinner! I may have to find that app.

I just got some peaches today. I have been craving peach cobbler. Or anything with peaches really. Yummo!!

Sarah (prairielily) | 26 comments I'm sitting July out.
I am still working on GWTW and have a bunch of YA to read for the upcoming school year.
See you in August (or back in the GWTW group).

Debbi Faust I was able to get this book from my library when I did a curbside pickup.

I had a bake day this week and the weather here in the PNW was perfect for that. I don't bake a lot for my husband and I but when I do bake I give a lot to neighbors and friends. Wednesday I made banana bread and red, white and blue M&M cookies for my son's family to take on a camping trip. My neighbor requested some Blueberry-Lemon Streusel Muffins for her son's birthday. Of course, I had to taste test everything. YUMMY!

DJ | 9 comments I was able to get this book from the library, so I can join in this month. I have baked banana bread with my daughter and plan to try a new cheesecake recipe for my husband’s birthday. I’m not much of a baker, but like to try out recipes now and then.

Katherine I'm a little late joining in. I just got a copy from the library.
