Got it in the mail last week! Was super excited to see it on the list for BOTM and I can’t wait to read it :)
hi guys!! What's everyone's first impression?? I was hooked as soon as I saw the Shelf Love Crate cover and am really enjoying so far! I'm almost done with it now and hoping we can chat once everyone gets reading!!
I got this in my book crate (either spearcraft or owl crate) a couple months ago and I’m excited to read it as part of a group!!
I read it a few months ago and at first was hooked but then quickly got disappointed. Only gave the book 3 stars! Also, I really didn't like the audiobook narrator which could have ruined it for me.Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I just finished it! It’s definitely a book for Slytherins (which I am) so I enjoyed it. I liked the characters and particularly their darker faults. I’m curious to hear what non-Slyntherins think about the characters and the plot because I think they won’t like it as much as I did. Let me know what you all think!
just finished! i didn't love it as much as i thought i would but it was still enjoyable! i wish alessandra got a deeper character development :(((
I read it about a week ago and I could not put it down. Usually, I have trouble with books whose main characters are kind of anti-heroes, but not in this case. I feel like their cunning and ruthlessness, were actually really likeable traits. I thought the way their characters worked together and grew with each other was really romantic too.
Read it yesterday. It’s such a good book. To me there were some major The Selection vibes and I loved it
I am on the chapter 4 and the main character is not a simple girl who goes out for hunting and helping her father to pay the dues. She is a villain and she knows she is pretty. She doesn't need a boy to tell her she looks beautiful.
I lovvveeee this so far!! I'm 3/4 of the way done. They just got back from their stake out masking as a "lady of the night". I appreciate their banter and am loving all the twists and turns of the plot!
I finished it today!😆 i had a few problems with it but it was super enjoyable and I just could not put it down
I finished this today!! Really loved it and the dark atmosphere. I think it’s was a really amazing story and got this in audio form. I love the characters and plotting and scheming. I gave it 4.5 stars.
I just finished it a couple of weeks ago! I literally could not put it down. I love how she knew that she wasn't a good person and she OWNED IT.
I have to agree with everyone saying she is an amazing antihero character! She rivals my love for Lada in the conqueror series! What would you guys change or do differently with the book?? I think I would have liked a little more inner monologue (but not much) to give the characters some depth maybe?
i liked kallias! i thought he was described as rather caring in the book and it definitely surprised me as to how nice he seemed, despite his mysterious name and powers. i do wish we got to see more of him and his development throughout the book though :((
i like Kallius more than Alessandra but wanted more back story on him, inner monologue or anything. i liked his dog too! I'm not sure how I feel about having so much promiscuity in a YA book, to me that content is 18+ and I'd hold this one from my kid 8[
Omg I just finished this book and I read it in 1 day😂🙆♀️ this was such an amazing book and the main character was such a breath of fresh air.
Denise wrote: "Omg I just finished this book and I read it in 1 day😂🙆♀️ this was such an amazing book and the main character was such a breath of fresh air."Rightttt 😂 I initially didn’t like her but as I kept reading I was like wow she’s super entertaining I’m just so tired of the classic YA female protagonist that she ended up being so refreshing

Ahhhhh I have so many unpopular opinions about this one! I agree with Ruthie—the beginning was intriguing but I quickly lost interest and couldn't wait to get the book over with. I also didn't like the audiobook narration. Caitlyn Davies isn't a great narrator, and she's pretty bad at playing a seductress type of character. The main character is what killed the book for me. She was so flat, no depth to her at all. We're repeatedly told that how villainous she is, but she falls for her target laughably fast, and all she cares about is making people lust after her. I told the person I was buddy reading with that she was just like the girl from the Pirate King book and but worse, and she had to remind that it was the same author. Oops 🙃
I'm having bad luck with this month's books!
Just started this. If the book continues like chapter one, I'm not going to be able to put this down.
Farren I agree on the seductress point - plus we were discussing this on Instagram - why are YA books showing sexually promiscuous characters at that age! All the parents in the group (and I'm agreeing) that it seems wildly age inappropriate for YA to show people sleeping around at 15 8|
hi all! I have to agree with Farren and Athena. I'll try to organize my thoughts so you can all give me your opinions! I am open to feedback lol. 1. first off- I picked it up and found the character entertaining but not deep. She did make me want to keep reading but kinda not agreeing that women think like that.
2. secondly- it was a fast pace book. I finished in three days and even though I didn't agree with the character's premise, the author did make me want to find out what happens. I did find the ending a bit predictable but not the plot twist. no spoiler alert here.
3. very sexually driven without any major twists other than the main character realizing she was kinda short sighted, which I expected. i could see this book among teenagers up for sex...or is that just me? 15 is a bit young and kinda illegal in some states lol.
4. works building..I had a hard time imagining the world until the end of book. electricity, full automatic rifles and horse drawn carriages? thoughts??
5. I did enjoy the magical results of relationship strain on a person who lives a long time. that was well thought out.
6. I thought the plot could have been more complicated but it was quick and detailed enough for YA.
Finished this last night and it was so entertaining. I gave it 5 stars. I enjoyed that the characters weren't decent people and the goal of the main character wasn't to achieve queendom/kingdom and turn their country into a democracy. Because of that it kept the story and characters very light. Do I want all ya to be like that absolutely not. But this cheered me up.
I absolutely loved it. I think if the 'actions' were too short for my taste. It ended so fast! But I thoroughly enjoyed the whole book :)
I had that in my review too philip, a gun and photograph in an otherwise old fashioned world. Also no magic other than the king at all! I am not sure what I'm reading next, I have a few that authors sent that I should probably read but am enjoying buddy reads LOL
Why is there so much description of clothes? I feel I am reading some character who is a fashion designer not someone courting the king
Wow apparently my opinion is unpopular but um, I DNFed this one....literally could not STAND the main character and the writing was just a lil dry to me, couldn't really connect with anyone. First one star book of the year for me...yikes. (Picked this one up because I'm a Slytherin, needless to say I was severely disappointed).
I’m with you, Lauren...I DNFed this one too. The main character was just so calculating and reveled in her ability to attract attention, and once she got it, she remained squarely in the center. No humility with this one. I did not stay long enough to find out what the shadows were all about, which I was mildly interested in, but realized I didn’t care, and stopped reading.
