Mind Readers (Team 10)
For TCF's GISH Scavenger Hunt, you will have one week to read one book for a task from that week's list. You cannot begin reading your book until Monday morning (12:01 am) PDT. You have until the following Sunday night (midnight) (PDT) to complete and report your book. (Please read above note....)By the end of August, the team with the most points wins
How to Play:* Each team member will need to read one book each week.
* The book must match a task from that week's list.
* Books must be at least 140 pages. Audio book page length is determined by the first paper version that shows up.
You may not start reading your book before Monday morning and
you must finish reading your book by Sunday night (midnight). (Please see note in message #1)
The next week's tasks will be posted on Friday morning. There will be about 26 tasks each week to choose from. Team members can read the same task. Points for the previous week's tasks will be announced when everyone's Completion Posts are reported.
If a team has fewer members than the other teams, a member may read an extra book to make up the difference. That member is the Designated Double Book Reader (DDBR :). The DDBR may change from week to week.
If a team member has an emergency or has scheduled an absence, a DDBR can read 2 books so that the team will not lose points.
Details:
*Teams will be posted July 2.
*There will be 8 'Weeks' to the game.
*The game will begin on Monday, July 6 at 12:01 a.m. (Pacific Daylight Time)
*The game will conclude Sunday, Aug 30 at 12:59 p.m. (Pacific Daylight Time)
*If your profile is set to private, you will need to open it for the duration of the game. You may need to be contacted by the head of your team.

Team 10 Scorecard
There are points given to each task. The points may be higher if the task is trickier.
Another way to earn points is the page count of the book you read.
140 - 199 pages = 3 points
200 - 299 pages = 6 points
300 - 399 pages = 9 points
400 - 499 pages = 12 points
500 - 599 pages = 15 points
600 - 699 pages = 18 points
700 - 799 pages = 21 points
800 - 899 pages = 24 points
900 - 999 pages = 27 points
a book with 1000+ pages is 30 points
Points are allocated for both the task AND the page length.

Call me lorii, (easier to type)Hi everyone. Waving hello from the tropics of Northern Australia. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
Hi!! I’m Namita from Vancouver, Canada. Looking forward to to playing. Lorii, do you need a co-captain? I could pitch in. Let me know.
Namita wrote: "Hi!! I’m Namita from Vancouver, Canada. Looking forward to to playing. Lorii, do you need a co-captain? I could pitch in. Let me know."Namita, that would be great, thanks. Would you be able to keep score for us? We need to keep a running tally of points for number of pages as well as the points for tasks.
Here the the link to the spreadsheet, Lorri. I still need to to add the formulas to get the page points.https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
I found a typo :(
Task #16 should be: Clowns were the original glad-iators. Prove it with Roman clowns fighting in an actual Colosseum or ancient amphitheater in a knock-down, drag-out pie fight. - read a book with all the letters 'G', 'L', 'A', 'D' in the title

Thanks Namita, I have copied the link up into Message 4, with the other scoring information.
Hi everyone! This is my first time playing this challenge so bear with me as I get used to it. (Any hints or suggestions would be welcome!)I'm in Las Vegas and have quite a bit of time to read (or listen) so I expect to read a couple books per week, and don't mind the long ones. Looking forward to starting!
We won't know how many points are assigned to each task until after we are checked in for the week. I am speculating that Task 7 (ballet) and Task 26 (Jane Austen Fanfiction) might be worth more points as it is very specific.
Yeah, I just looked at that JAFF list and thankfully there is one book that I already have on the TBR...I'm primarily an MM reader so I knew it would be difficult. I also just added Gonna hit up my feed to see if there are any more...
I’ve been trying to think which would get us more points. Guess we will find out after the first week. Nice to meet you Michaelle!!
I'm very busy this month, but fur the people who are looking for tasks that might have a lot of points: I'm guessing the author's name being in the center is one.
Welcome Meira. Remember that if RL gets in the way, one of us can read two books. DDBR - designated double book reader. Just let us know. :)
I think it would probably be a good idea if to begin with we all read for different tasks. Lanelle has sneakily used the phrase "The points may be higher if the task is trickier." So no guarantees. :)
Also, in my view this is first and foremost about having fun, especially during this crazy and unpredictable time. Therefore, I don't want anyone to slog through or feel obliged to read something they aren't enjoying even if it may have more points - it might not as well. Also it is perfectly ok to swap books out mid week, if it's not working for you, just let me know.

Well said. May I copy this and share it with everyone participating in the challenge?

To your knowledge, the spreadsheet is view-only. Is that intentional?
By the way, it's still 14 hours ahead, but I plan to read the 'published in 1998' For knowledge since I know some people want to have a variety in tasks.

Updated!! You can add your book. I still have some work to do on the spreadsheet but it’s good for now.
Do we want to give our Team a name? Here are a few suggestions: GPS This
The Mind Readers
Sherlock Holmegirls
A T-Rex Ate My Team Name
It’s a Mad Mad Team
The challenge begins in less than 12 hours. Captains, if you have a team member who hasn't checked in, feel free to send them a message. You many want to have a DDBR in case they don't show up.
Also, I've added a detail to the rules that I forgot: No graphic novels, poetry, or cookbooks.

Sounds good to me too. Lorri, would you please ask Lanelle to update our name or if you created the thread, you could update it.

Important
Please have books completed and checked into this thread by Sunday 8.00pm PDT. I live in Australia, the midnight deadline for team check-in is exactly when I am hopefully being a good girl sweating and puffing my way up the local mountain with a group of friends in an effort to stay fit (about 5pm my time.) This way I will have plenty of time to collate things and check our team in before I leave. Thanks lorii
