幽灵 (_youlin)
description description description

The dark mysterious forest. Crunching of the dry leaves, the occasional rustle of wind through the branches, the muffled sound of voices.... that was all. The forest is still, as if absent of any form of life. However hard you strain your ears, you could never detect a sound.

Nightlock, poisonous toadstools, belladonnas... the beautiful yet deadly flowers bloomed silently in the corner, luring any curious visitors. They envelop themselves in unassuming forms, their appearances so well-camouflaged that they seemed to blend in with the other plants. Look before you eat, because there is a chance that a blackberry might not be a blackberry at all. Never touch anything, even moss.

Deeper into the forest runs a spring. Yet, a spring so murky that the waters spilling out were brown and chalky. One look at it, you would lose hope. How could anyone even try something that filthy?!

Venture as far as you like, but watch out for the surprises...

Ry ran into the forest, scanning the area. His steps were silent, other than the occasional crunch of leaves. He looked around, knife sheathed calmly by his side. His gold eyes caught on something in the foliage - mushrooms. And not the edible kind. He took out the knife, slicing off the lower part of his shirt, and knelt to cut off a few mushrooms from the tree trunk. He gathered them in the cloth, wrapping them securely and tucking them in the backpack.

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) Lysa gripped Hazel tightly by the hand. She did not like this place in the least, the silence made her nerves jangle, she felt as though it were a smothering blanket pressing air out of her lungs.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Ry turned and saw Lysandra and Hazel. He exhaled slowly, knowing they could hear him. He stood, but didn't put away his knife yet.

message 6: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) Hazel led her briskly to a rather hidden spot. "We're safe, Lysa. Relax." She said gently, her alert eyes scanning their surroundings. "So we have two backpacks. I gather that we have enough food?" She scavenged through the dried fruits and the supplies. "We'll survive."

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) Lyssandra stopped suddenly, sensing something - or someone - close by. "Hazel...?" she whispered tentatively.

message 8: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 70 comments Alice stumbled out from behind a tree to find both Hazel and Lysa ready to attack her, or run. "Wait, no it's me!" she screamed, reaching for them before they could leave her, alone in the peaceful yet deadly forest.

message 9: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 70 comments She was painfully aware that her scream was loud and sharp, and alerted everyone nearby to her location. She ran, hoping that she imagined the shadow she saw in the trees.

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) "Oh Alice! I'm so happy you're here!" said Lyssandra, relief flooding over her. "But we've got to move, I think there is someone else around..."

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

"Just me," Ry said quickly, stepping out. But not putting away his knife yet.

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) "Ry?" asked Lysa. "Is that you?"

message 13: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie Stone Braylen enters a different part of the forest of where Ry, Lyssandra, and Alice were. His short legs didn't move very fast but he kept running, trying to get deep into the forest. He finally stops and rests, he puts his hands on his knees panting. This running was NOT one of his skills. He is careful about everything around him because he doesn't recognize much even though he is good at plant identification.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

"Yeah," Ry said, taking a careful step. He cocked his head, hearing something...different from the usual forest sounds. "There's someone else. But pretty far from here, since I can't tell if it's a guy or a girl."

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) Lyssandra nodded. "We should go. Um... Shall we be allies? I think it'll be safer if we stick together. For now."

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Ry nodded. "Sure." He couldn't promise the security of that alliance, though. He sheathed his knife anyway, as a sign of trust.

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) "Thank you," said Lyssandra, though she did not entirely trust him, nor her own judgment.

message 18: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) Hazel eyed Ry still suspiciously. "Wait, you hadn't been all willing to be allies before the Games. Why should we trust you?" She said as she glanced at him sharply.

message 19: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 70 comments Alice wasn't sure about Ry. Something about him made her want to trust him, but on the other hand she knew she couldn't trust anyone, except maybe Lysa and Hazel. She longed for her family's dagger, secure in her hand.

message 20: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) Hazel placed an arm on Alice's shoulder. Giving her a reassuring smile that promised to protect them all, she turned back to Ry. "Well?"

message 21: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 70 comments Alice smiled, reassured by Hazel's air of confidence. She took a deep breath and took a look at her surroundings for the first time. It was quite beautiful, if you didn't think about it being a major bloodbath. "Let's find a less exposed spot," she said.

message 22: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) Hazel nodded, her eyes still never leaving Ry. "I swear, if you dare hurt them, I'll never hesitate to kill you." She said fiercely and linked her arms with Lysa and Alice. "Where do you want to go?" She asked, turning back to Alice.

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) Lyssandra bit her lip. If Ry hurt any of her friends, it would be her fault. "Let's go deeper, to the wheat field. There will be less Tributes there, hopefully."

message 24: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) Hazel shook her head wildly. "No! The field just gives m a weird feeling." She sighed as she burst out suddenly. "Sorry, it's just the field gives me creeps, as if when I go in, I'll never come back out again."

message 25: by Amanda Artist Cat (last edited Sep 10, 2020 03:18AM) (new)

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) "Sure, it's all right," said Lyssandra, clocking her head to one side. "How about somewhere more sheltered? The lakes, maybe? There's water there..."

message 26: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) Hazel eyed the stream. "Probably we'll be the safest here, cloaked in the greenery. What do you think?" She asked Lysa.

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) "Oh sure. We can go ahead and check it out," Lyssandra said, nodding.

message 28: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) Hazel led them further into the forest. "There's a spring here, well-hidden as well. The only problem is that it's definitely muddy. Wanna camp here?" She asked her allies.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

"There's no food here," Ry pointed out. " None that I would trust anyway."

message 30: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) "We have some in the backpack." Hazel said coolly, raising her eyebrows.

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) "We can split it between us," suggested Lysa, trying to avoid an argument. "So if one of us got lost, or... Well, it's safer. And fair."

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

"I haven't looked through my backpack yet," Ry shrugged. "But that's good to know."

message 33: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie Stone Braylen sits up after hiding out for a while, he gets up and his stomach growls in hunger. He hadn't eaten since this whole thing started so he goes out and tries to find some food. He has no such luck, he sighs and sits back down, beginning to grow really thirsty as well.

message 34: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie Stone Braylen's stomach growls and he yawns. He goes out and tries to find some food again. he finds some berries, eating them. He truly didn't care if he'd die after eating them, not like he was going to win anyway, might as well die sooner than later. He wasn't going to make himself die though, he'd just eat all the plants in the forest. One of them must be poisonous. He finishes up his blackberries and goes back to his hiding spot. He falls asleep easier, more satisfied with hunger after eating the berries. He may be dead by morning, he didn't care.

message 35: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 70 comments Alice trudged through the forest with her allies, and stood in the muddy, but definitely sheltered spot they stood. "I don't think we're going to get a spot much better than this," she said. "And I agree with Lysa. Let's split up the food." She felt in control of her fear her, hidden behind the dark green leaves, and was glad that she wasn't alone in this.

message 36: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) Hazel nodded. "So, we have two packets of dried fruit, and Ry, how many do you have?" She dug the packets out and examined them. "How do we divide them?"

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) "Are you all right, Alice?" asked Lysa

message 38: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 70 comments "Yeah," Alice said, smiling. "Just the fear that I'm in the Hunger Games, but you know, apart from that," she laughed quietly. "Maybe we can find some leaves or something to pack the food in, because we don't have enough packets for all of us." She glanced across at Lysa. "Are you ok?" she asked.

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) "Hmm. It just doesn't feel right... This place seems so... Malicious. Unnatural. But yes, let's find some leaves, be careful what you touch!"

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

"I wouldn't," Ry said quietly. "The Capitol likes making new things for the Games...those are probably not normal."

message 41: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) Hazel nodded in agreement. "Everything is just too artificial and dangerous. We must stick together."

message 42: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 70 comments Alice glanced around, and realised they were right. They looked too pretty, too natural, there had to be something about them that was dangerous or toxic. "Ok, let's scrap that plan. I'm going to climb that tree and see if I can get a better look at the arena." And with that she stepped towards the tree and took a deep breath before beginning to climb it, careful not to put her back to any of them. She did trust them, but you could never be too careful.

message 43: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) Hazel supported her legs. "I'll catch you if you fall." She smirked playfully.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

Ry snorted quietly, opening the pack and looking through it, but keeping the packet of mushrooms hidden.

message 45: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 70 comments Alice snickered, giggling at Ry's disgusted expression. "Thanks," she said to Hazel, and pulled herself further up the tree, which seemed gigantic.

message 46: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) Hazel peered up and warned. "Be careful, there might be insects or goodness knows what inside."

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

"Or mutated birds," Ry said, half joking.

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) "Do you see anything good?" asked Lysa, setting down her pack at her feet but not opening it. "I think we need more water, this definitely isn't enough for all of us. Is the stream safe to drink?"

message 49: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) Hazel eyed the muddy stream. "Well, it isn't clear, but I think the crystal clear ones creep me out more. And we have iodine." She raised a bottle up. "What do you think?"

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) "I could get some for us, we'd die of thirst if we don't...?" said Lyssandra doubtfully.
