Okay....I LOVE these movies...so I was super excited to read the books.... and then....UGH!!!

The books are really lame compared to the movies, with Toothless being a tiny boring and totally normal dragon, Hiccup not being the first person to train a dragon, and also I guess later in the series there is a new dragon that is actually the one Hiccup rides.... I quit after the third book. This is one where I do not like the books really at all...and will stick to the movies instead for sure!!

Cee (The Mistress Case) (themistresscase) Wow, that's rare. Based on my observations, books are always better than the movies. Well, I won't waste my time reading the books then. I already love the movies <3 Toothless is just like so adorable.

There are only a few times where I have liked the movie better, and it is usually when I see the movie without knowing it was a book. But....in this case even if I had read the book first I don't think I could have liked the book at all! Toothless is tiny and whiny and annoying most of the time.... And the relationship in the book is not endearing or special like in the movie!

Stephanie Lingenfelter (stephanielingenfelter) I didn't even realize it was a book!

Justin (justinbienvenue) I remember watching the movie for the first time last year and thinking what a great film it was. I thought it was fun and enjoyable and didn't think it would be much of anything but it surprised me. I want to see the second one and though I looked into the books after reading what you wrote Dana, perhaps I''ll refrain for now at least.

Greta | 2 comments I saw the first movie and loved it - one of my favourite animation movies but the second one was a complete disappointment, they absolutely slaughtered the characters they had done so well in the first. I didn't realise that it was based on a book though, should I bother reading them?

Alice | 5 comments A movie better than the book... I thought it was impossible!! Perhaps I will take this book out from my to-read list.

I don't want anyone to straight up not read it because of me, but maybe give it a try and see...with the understanding that you might be let down... I am glad I read the first three to see how they were, but I will not be reading any more... I honestly would like more people to read them so I am sure they really are bad, and it's not just me disliking them! haha
