SciFiNow | 89 comments Brandon Sanderson

My favorite author of late is Brandon Sanderson, primarily a fantasy writer. I first came across him with his Mistborn series which blew me away. He then took over the Wheel of Time series after Robert Jordan had passed, he did an excellent job of finishing the epic story. Since then he has created many novels, he really has a creative mind and i have really enjoyed all of his books. Especially his epic fantasy series the Stormlight Archive it is amazing. So has anyone heard of him before? Also who is your favorite author at the moment?

I have been on a bit of a Neal Stephenson kick lately. Discovered him through my last book club and snow crash. I enjoyed Reamde. Currently reading Cryptonomicon

Jennifer (jenlynn97) | 60 comments I am reading Wheel of Time but I am only on book 6, so I haven't gotten to Sanderson yet. His Mistborn is on my list, though! I am currently re-reading the Outlander series since it turned into a TV series on Starz. I recommend that series. It gets stuck in the romance section but it IS NOT a romance series. At. All. The main couple get married in the first half of the first book (spoiler alert) and remain married for 40 years. Sort of. But, anyway, I recommend that series, even to guys. I just got off of an Appalachian literature kick. I am really sort of between new fabulous things to read right now.

I dont know jennifer i started outlander and couldnt make it through because of all the romance, but perhaps it deserves another shot. Wheel of time is my number one series of all time, i keep trying to find something like it but nothing quite gets there. The closest to it is the Stormlight Archive written by Sanderson.

Jess I am really liking Jim Butcher right now, and I am currently rereading Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series.

Ellie (whipsnake) I will pick up any book by Neil Gaiman or Terry Pratchett any time. They are the only ones I can think of where I am trying to read everything they have ever written. It's a large project but I'm getting there.

Jennifer (jenlynn97) | 60 comments I am also reading the Sword of Truth series, but I got off track looking for a job (important!) so now I am back at it!

John Stinebaugh I have recently rediscovered Kevin J Anderson. His Dan Shamble novels are a great chuckle.

message 14: by Nathan (new)

Nathan | 34 comments I love Anderson. I haven't gotten to his Dan Shamble books yet.

message 15: by Docxen (new)

Docxen | 159 comments yes love shamble him and his ghost gf is a sad tale though.

message 16: by John (new)

John Stinebaugh Nathan they are on the nose humor, but you can just feel how much fun Anderson is having writing it. At Starfest last year he glowed talking about them. Makes them a fun read.

Jennifer (jenlynn97) | 60 comments So, I have now read the Mistborn series and I LOVED IT. I am on the Wax and Wayne stuff now. I am going to read all of Sanderson's stuff. I am still, STILL, on the 6th book of Wheel of time. I read a chapter a day, now, though, so I should get through it in a month or so.

I have been reading some good non-fiction lately. I am currently reading a book Samuel Johnson wrote in 1771 about his trip to Scotland. This interests me because my mom is from Scotland and because of the outlander series. This is written by an Englishman After Culloden, which is important to Scot history.
