First Frost is a sequel to the popular Garden Spells. It's set about 10 years later. Claire is married with a child. She is now making special candies and was written up in a popular magazine. Sydney's daughter Bay is now in high school and has met a boy who (she believes) belongs in her life.

The time before first frost is traditionally a challenging time for the Waverlys, and this year is no exception. Emotions run high and the sisters are questioning their lives. To add to the stress, a mysterious stranger is snooping about Claire, and Sydney has baby fever, and a problematic young employee. Evenelle (and now Fred) is providing just the right things that people will soon need.

This is a delightful and satisfying story that honors the first book and deepens the family bonds. The writing, magic and relationships develop beautifully. I recommend it for fans of Sarah Addison Allen.
