the kingdom of agria //semi-advanced// discussion
Dwynwen walked elegantly down the dimly lit hall that lead to her new room, sure to keep her regal composure. Though she didnβt see anyone in the hall, she feared that if anyone saw her letting down her poise on the first day she would be looked down upon. She hadnβt a clue what the prince and his family were like and what they expected of her. Her grandmother had trained her for years to be a proper young lady and to fit into a royal society, but there were still times when she had a difficult time doing it. She knew that if she got attached to someone, even the prince, she would let her guard down and she was unsure how it would end.
She approached room 10, the one assigned to be hers and slowly twisted the door handle. When she walked in, she let out an audible gasp. It was the most beautiful place she had ever seen! She completely forgot to keep her poise, and twirled around in the gorgeous room like a little child.
She admired every aspect of the beautiful room, the color, the intricate detail, the cozy bed. She was lost in her own world when she looked up at the clock and realized she was late for the meal in the dining hall! She hurried out of her room, smoothing out her dress as she made her way to the dining hall.
((Actually you don't have to count that every time... just refrain from writing one sentence long posts and they'd be okay. Plus, you have already written rather complex sentences π))
The prince knocked cautiously, a lone flower in his hands. Leaning against the cool wooden door frame, he waited patiently for her. He eyed the delicate purple flower in his hands, the flower reminding of his days of his mission. Stop it, business first, think later. He chided himself firmly, focusing on the closed doors.
Dwynwen had been doing her hair, when she heard a knock at the door. She assumed it was her maid, but she usually had a cheerful knock, this knock sounded quiet and cautious. She stood up, smoothed out her dress and opened the door. Standing in the doorframe was Prince Evermony himself! Shocked she felt her eyes widen, βWhy would he be here? I thought I scared him away!β
He heard soft footsteps behind the door which then stopped right behind the door. Hesitating. Shaking his head in amusement, he called through the still closed doors. "Come on, Dwynwen. I'm sorry, okay? Just open this damn door!" He sounded exasperated and amused at the same time. "Plus, is this the way to treat a prince?" He joked.
Dwynwen was shocked when he heard the princeβs voice. Half of her wanted to walk away, the other half wanted to bite her tongue and act like a proper gal, but all of her was furious. βNow is that how youβre supposed to treat a lady?β She shouted through the door. She had planned on apologizing to the prince herself and making amends, but this was horribly rude.
"What? How...?" The prince was seriously confused. "Well fine, if you don't want to open this door, then I'll call for a locksmith then. Or I could just break this door down. Mind you, I'm fairly skilled in martial arts." He warned and prepared to break the door down.
This was horribly un-prince-like of him. All the girls spoke so highly of him, but he was a brat! She flung the door open in frustration, the look on her face telling him that she didnβt just do it because he asked. She heard out a hand, everything inside her was screaming βNo!β But she was horrified at the princeβs behavior. She sent a ball of ice rocketing into the princeβs chest, not enough to do any damage, but just the right amount so that he was throttled into the wall behind him.
The prince saw the bluish white lines before the ice appeared. And they said she was sweet and polite... Sighing, he reached out and absorbed the impact in a mild tornado, twirling his fingers lazily. "Really?" He told her, quirking an eyebrow as he stepped into her room before she could react.
Now Dwynwen was furious, and a tiny part of her a bit giddy. She didnβt know why, and she was mad at herself for it. Dwynwen smiled βOh, I was just taking it easy on you,β she said, sending ice up from the floor surrounding him on all sides with the snap of her fingers. It was an easy spell, but he didnβt need to know that.
He called upon the winds, crashing the ice with ferocious impact as the room shuddered under their crackling powers. Sending a wave of icy cold air, he blasted her mildly, sending chills down her spine. Not enough to freeze but enough to tease her. "Hmm, I guess we'll have to forget about that flower then." He commented as the flower floated above, lifeless.
βA gladiolus...β she thought, βHow did he know?β βNot so fast,β she said, freezing the flower in midair. It dropped to the ground and she quickly formed a vase made of ice for it to fall into. She smirked at him, challenging him for more.
"Ahh... at least you appreciate my gift." He grinned. "So, what next? I'd hate to damage your beautiful room." He said, looking around almost regretfully. "Yet, I can't deny that you're kinda fun."
((Okay thanks)) Dwynwen smiled, βI suppose youβre not so bad yourself. Shall we continue by the fountain?β she asked, not wanting the queen to question the destruction of her room. βIβll race you there!β She shouted, pelting a snowball at him and racing down the hall.
"A race? Again? Urghh, you girls are.... Wait up!!!" He yelled and ran after her, sending small puffs of air to slow her down. "Stop!!!! I'm so gonna win." He groaned, picking up speed.
βWeβll see about that!β She shouted playfully, sending more and more snowballs at him. She dashed down the corridors, paying no mind to her childish and improper behavior. She was having fun! For the first time here, she was having fun. Wasnβt that more important than some petty selection or royal event?
He sped up, using his powers to boost his speed. Floating beside her, he grinned. "Hi there. I'd advise you to keep it down cause we're nearing dangerous territory. Mom's room."
Dwynwen winked in agreement. She had a good reputation with the queen, and she didnβt want to ruin it. She sped ahead and shot him a glance, planting a sheet of ice at his feet to trip him up.
((actually he's floating so idk if he'll trip or not))
He eyed the glass, flicking a hand to disintegrate it instantly. "Better not leave this in front of her door. A good idea, but inadvisable." He smirked mischievously. "I'll have to come to you for pranks then next time. Awesome."
Dwynwen smiled, βIβve got a few tricks up my sleeve,β she said, keeping her voice down. She ran as fast as she could, barreling through the doors and out to the fountain. Her legs felt heavy and her lungs felt small, but she was determined to beat Evermony to the fountains. She knew if she didnβt win, sheβd never hear the end of it. ((Letβs switch rooms now))
((okay.))
He eyed her and increased his speed, the air rushing behind the both of them. Narrowing his eyes, he flew beside her furiously, keeping up the pace as a thrill of exhiliration rushed through him. "Almost..."
Dwynwen came into her room to relax after a long day. She eyed the flower still frozen in the vase on the floor. There was a small pool of water around it, but it still held its shape. Dwynwen picked up the flower and eyed it carefully, memories of the fun sheβd had with the prince dancing through her mind. βA gladiolus, how did he know?β She asked herself again, under her breath. She was mystified and a little suspicious, but thankful all the while.
Marie hummed as she swept the corridors, her brush cheerfully removing the dust. She heard a faint tinkle of glass and wondered what that sound was. It came from the room of one of the Selected and Marie couldn't help but feel curious. Pushing the door open gently, she poked her head into the room and gasped at the mess. "Umm..."
Dwynwenβs eyes darted up and filled with shock. She quickly realized what a horrible mess she and the prince had made. Her expression softened as if to say βIβm so sorry!β But a giggle pulled at the corners of her lips. βI... I can explain,β she said, trying to think of an excuse. No one would ever believe or want to believe that the prince and a Selected girl had made such a mess of a room.
Marie raised her eyebrows. "Huh? You had better." She said, her hands on her hips. She eyed the Selected girl and her eyes softened. But only slightly. She seemed to have been through a lot, and well, Marie understood. The world outside was a mess. And the Selection was demanding as well. Yet, these couldn't be why she made a mess here. So she stared pointedly at the frozen icicles and said. "Well?"
βI... I believe Iβve come down with a cold. Sometimes my powers get out of whack when Iβm sick,β she lied. She knew she was a terrible liar, and while many elementals did loose control of there powers when they were sick, most Selected girls were chosen because of their incredible skills with their powers, and most strong elementals didnβt get power fits when they were sick. She let out a delayed cough to seal the deal, but she knew it wouldnβt work. ((I have to go ty for rping))
Maids weren't supposed to ask. Maids weren't supposed to question a Selected's affairs. Yet, when had Marie acted like a typical maid? Plus, she had seen too much lies in her short life to distinguish between the truth and a lie.
"Well then miss, if you're really sick, I guess I should send for the Queen. She's a whiz in healing." She said calmly, a speck of worry masking her smirk. She was good at that sort of thing, being sold off since young. Marie was intrigued by the girl and she couldn't help but added. "Yet, you should really clean the mess up after you get back. Come, let me escort you."
Dwynwen didnβt know what to do, she certainly hadnβt planned for this type of reaction. βOh, no no, Iβm quite alright. Nothing but a mere cold,β Dwynwen looked around, there was water and ice everywhere, the bed frame bent from Evermonyβs wind, and everything was blown around. She sat in the middle of the room holding a frozen flower, in the most unladylike manner. It was impossible to believe, and there was clear sign that an air elemental had been there too, but she couldnβt tell the truth, could she? What would become of her if the maids knew that she lied?
"Oh? Are you sure? The wreckage seemed pretty bad that I worry for you." Marie said, leaning against the doorframe. "Anyways, would you rather me call for the Queen to come see for herself or would you rather tell me what happened exactly?" he asked for the last time, sighing exasperatedly. This girl was stubborn, she would give her that. But Marie had dealt with all sorts of people in her life and she had plenty of time to wait.
Dwynwen was both dismayed and strangely relieved that the maid had seen through her lie. βForgive me for lying miss, Iβd hate to do any discredit to my name,β she said in a proper tone. βMy friend and I were having a little fun, and it was horribly improper. Please pardon us.β Dwynwen truly didnβt regret any of what she did with the prince, but in order to uphold her and Evermonyβs reputation, she needed to at least act like she felt guilty. She resorted to calling Evermony a βfriendβ in order to prevent him from getting into any kind of trouble. She didnβt know the half of what the queen would do if she found out.
Marie hid a smirk. She knew exactly who was responsible, tending to him since he was a toddler. She knew his powers, what he was capable of, and the shapes he left staining the carpets every time he unleashed his merciless winds. There was only one person in this entire palace who would leave such a great mess.
Prince Evermony.
And Marie sighed inwardly as she eyed the messy room. "Well fine, would you mind if I cleaned up for a bit?" Her eyes drooped at the prospect of cleaning. Again.
Throughout the day, her hands were raw and sore from all the scrubbing, her hair dishelved from bending over and dusting the already shiny tapestries. Yet, she was a maid and this was her duty. Reminding herself sternly, she pushed her slick hair that almost dripped with sweat away from her face, mustering a focrced smile that was believably sweet as she waited for the lady to let her in.
βOh, I can take care of this...β Dwynwen said, looking around. It was a disaster, half of it of which she didnβt know how to fix. She looked back up at the maid who was wearing a forced smile. βI suppose I could use some help.β She felt guilty saying it, but it was the maidβs job.
Marie felt a foreign flare of anger though she didn't know why. What was this girl implying, treating her as if she was obliged to clean up the girl's mess? Marie fumed and her rage only grew at the sight of the room. Strange, how a duty could turn into a burden just by the tone of her voice. Marie felt her anger spiking with the lady's tone, as if she were below the Selected. As if this particular selected was so high and mighty.
Storming into the room without a word, she flicked her hand and the mess cleared. As a half-educated Elemental, Marie's skills were powered by the sheer force of her extreme emotions. And the anger did the job. Yet, she felt pangs of lethargy as she panted, the rage still bubbling at the lady's impeccably superior expression.
"Get out of my way. I'm going to the Queen."
Dwynwen was shocked, scared, impressed, and confused. This maid was an extremely skilled elemental... she was raging mad... and she was going to the...queen? The realization hit her like a boulder. It had all happened so fast, and it didnβt make any sense. βPlease, miss! I didnβt mean any harm! What did I do wrong?β She pleaded, her knees still on the ground and the frozen flower still in her hand. The vase had shattered with the maidβs blow.
((I'll be on only when it's the weekends.. or else I have school so no on weekdays...
Marie shot the girl a glare.
"Nothing! You were an oh-so-proper lady! Perhaps you should report my misbehavior to the queen?" She retorted and added under her breath. "Stuck-up."
She felt herself getting even more mad with the girl kneeling in front of her as if she was innocent and didn't deserve such treatment. Snorting unamusedly, she slammed the door and turned to face Dwynwen.
"Listen, I don't care who you are. I don't stand any nonsense, not even from a Selected."
βIβm sorry, Maβam. I truly didnβt mean any malice!β Dwynwen pleaded sincerely. She truly wasnβt trying to talk down to the maid. The maid offered to help, but did she not want her to say yes? Dwynwenβs plea wasnβt enough. For the maid stormed out of the room dispute her and Dwynwen heard her stomping footsteps descend down the hall way in the direction of the queenβs room. She was really doing it.
Marie shot the girl a glare. "I don't care! You had insulted me and I can't stand any of this so get out of my way!" She yelled at Dwynwen who was standing near the door. Eyeing the room in disdain, she visualized the Queen standing in front of her with the girl's smug expression, victory enveloping them with the Selected's stuck up air. "She probably has had the Queen under her fingertips as well." She muttered angrily.
"Fine! But know that you'd never win the Selection! Not when I would neither give you my blessings, nor would I serve you as faithfully as I would to those I admire." She said stoutly and firmly.
