Hi Team, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone. A little about me: I live in Asheville, NC. I read a bit of everything but I prefer historical romance and fantasy. I'm currently trying to clean off my physical book shelves, but I keep getting distracted by ebooks.
My favorite book of the year so far is:
My least favorite book of the year so far is:
I'm also looking forward to getting to know each other and to start the challenge with all of you.I'm living in Bruges (Belgium) and I mostly read fantasy, but also other genres. I have a lot of physical books, but now doubting to buy an e - reader.
My favorit book is:
Hi everyone,Glad we have our thread already. I'm Lau and I'm from Portugal. I can read any genre but I turn to appreciate more young adult , romance, contemporary and some non fiction. More than the genre... I enjoy fast paced books.
I would have to mention a book and a graphic novel series as my favorite this year
and
One ofmy least favorite books of 2020 was
but it0s just an honorable mention, I have othersDo we need captains for this challenge?
Hi Everyone! Looking forward to this challenge starting.I'm Melanie from a tiny town in New Jersey no one has ever heard of, but I'm a 25 minute drive across the river from Philadelphia. I primarily read romance (historical, contemporary, suspense, & sometimes paranormal), thrillers, cozy mysteries, and urban fantasy (no regular fantasy for me).
A few of my favorites so far this year are below.
Hello, Everyone~I'm in Northeast Ohio and so go by Eastern Standard Time. My favorite genres are fantasy and romance, which I see we have a lot of in the group - how fun!
Ompf, I've read so many great books this year, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would have to be: House of Earth and Blood ♡
And, haha, my least favorite might be the one I'm currently listening to: Crave. It is making me seriously consider getting drunk to finish listening to it!
So, I've got the spreadsheet emailed by the mods. Do you want all to have access to it to edit or just one person? Also, we need to tell a bit about our restaurant: what it's about...The name we allready have.About the captain: maybe it's easy to have a captain? It's my first team challenge in this group, but I have done others in other groups, also with a captain. (I've been captain once or twice)
Have you already books planned to read next month? I have a couple. What are the lenghts of books you can read? I have a lot of thin ones and normally I can read 1 or 2 above 300 pages. So, that's a good option for fresh and frozen meals.
I'm a mood reader so I don't know what I'll be reading, sorry. I would like to have a captain that can keep us in check and I'm ok with you being captain, if anyone wants to co captain that would be ok also About the spreadsheet... Im fine filling it or just checking the books in the thread. I think we should have a way to track all of the possibilities in each books so we can mix and match with the meals later
@Lau: no problem, I'm a mood reader too. Maybe a second spreadsheet can work to put the books in it that we're currently reading? So we can see where we can mix and match? (Sorry, my English isn't my main language and it's sometimes difficult to put in words what I mean)
I can create a tracking sheet for us that will have columns to list all options for the spell-it-out and scavenger hunt items. That way we can see all the books in one place, with all options, and come up with meals.I can work on it later this morning.
Saar The Book owl wrote: "Have you already books planned to read next month?..."I'm mostly a mood reader, so outside of a few October ARCs I'll be reading in September, I don't have anything planned.
I do know at some point during the challenge that I will be picking up some of Jackie Lau's books. She writes great contemporaries that usually have a lot of food mentions in them, so I know they'll have a lot of options for this challenge. I think most of her books are on Scribd if anyone wants to pick any up. I know for sure the Holidays with the Wongs series has a lot of food mentions if the first book is anything to go by.

Loved that book!
Hi all, I am checking in. Didn't realise the tread was up.I live in the UK and am addicted to any kind of challenge! Just finished the Wheelathon challenge so thought I would sign up to this one next. I usually read chick-lit, Romance, Historical Fiction and paranormal romance but will read most genres. Looking forward to playing with you all and no doubt adding more books to my never ending TBR list ;) I own too many books and 2 Kindles, and don't even get me started on audiobooks. I am always have a book either in hand or in ear.
Favourite books this year are:
Worst so far:

Maybe if we appoint a captain/co-captain they could check at the end of the week to make sure everything has been added correctly.
Thanks, @Melanie! And I agree with @Jade that it might be easiest if we can all enter our own terms, but also to have a captain/co-captain to double check things in the end. Also, if we max out at 80 books a round (which is about three books per week per person), then I'm thinking it might be best if we focus on scavenger hunting the words rather than spelling out? What do y'all think?
I'm a mood reader too, but I'm in a lot of book clubs and have some required reading for work, so I know those titles for sure and can input them ahead of time. Most are between 300-400 pages (your general book club length). We'll have "water" covered with The Water Dancer!

That wine comment made me lol! ;D I've heard mixed reviews about that book.
Sounds like we are a group of mood readers. I am also in lots of other groups and challenges so usually search my kindle for certain tasks that can fit various challenges.
Ok here is the tracking sheet I came up with, I tried to keep it similar to the official sheet to make transferring the info easier. Let me know if this link doesn't work for anyone.https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
On the Books tabs, columns F & G are where we'd fill in whatever we find in the book that will work for the meals. I added one book I'll read, so you can see how I filled it in but add it however works for you as long as the justification is added.
The two color columns on the Books tabs (H&I) will auto fill based on your book information, so you won't need to enter those. I kept them from the official sheet to make it easier to see how many times and where a book can be used.
I then added a couple column where we can mark what meals the book is used in after we decide and a check box to show it's been added to the official spreadsheet.
On the Meals tabs, again the two color columns (E & L) will auto fill based on what is entered so they don't need to be manually put in. This tab is just like the official one, so I figured we could use it to brainstorm our meal ideas before moving them over to the official sheet.
Let me know if there any changes you think the spreadsheet could use.
Thanks, Melanie! It the spreadsheet looks GREAT!Only thing I noticed as I started to add my books is it looks like the logical formula for H & I does not continue past Row 2. It wouldn't let me apply the rule to the rest, otherwise I would. Sorry!

It was one of the best I've ever read 😊
Thank you for making a planning sheet. I don’t know if we need a captain, but probably would be good to have someone check the sheet weekly. I’m happy to enter my own book. I’ve been co-captain for a couple challenges here.
I also don’t care to plan books in advance but that is mostly because I don’t know what I’ll be able to get from my library.
That looks good, Melanie, thank you for all your work. Personaly, I'll go for the spell it out and a couple of books for the scavenger. It's easier for me to find the books then for spell it out.
I agree with Jade. We can all fill in the sheet at our own and then check by a captain. If no one is up to, I would gladly try to be captain with someone as a co - captain?
I'll check tomorrow how I can invite you all to the spreadsheet.
My bad - I looked through the rules again and since books can be used multiple times (depending on page number) the question of spell-out versus scavenger hunt solves itself! I'm definitely interested in how this goes - I haven't been in a challenge quite like this, haha!
Yes, I have just read the rules again, it will definitely be challenging! Looking forwards to playing ;)
@Chris: thanks for checking! Is it okay for everyone that Melanie is co - captain and myself captain? If anyone else would like to be captain, that's fine by me :)
The only book I’ve picked is the audiobook for War and Peace. I had been saving it for Tower Teams because of the length but since that isn’t happening this year I will start it for this. I have to put a hold on it at my library so I may take me a long time to finish. I’m guessing a month as it’s over 60hours of audio and I will probably have to renew.
We start on the 19th right? I have nine books I wanna finish by the end of the month, and I'm not sure which ones will still be unread by then!
Books only count if started after the 19th ... I have no idea what I'll be reading but it will probably be some kind of romance, that's I've been in the mood for lately
Nothing planned as yet, the 19th is too far in advance for me, although I have a few books on my want to read list. Not sure what covid has been like for you guys but in the UK the libraries have only just re-opened and they are appointment only, so I have a slot booked tomorrow on my lunch break....fingers crossed I find something I like in 30 minutes ;/ usually spend forever looking at covers and reading the back covers.

I think the longest I have done is A Storm of Swords which was 47 hours.
