Marlo | 19 comments I've browsed through some of the discussions here. Some books I'd recommend with either only rare profanity or none and without smut would be almost anything by Charles Martin, The Mitford Series, Dogwood and Almost Heaven by Chris Fabry, Saint Ben by John Fischer, Whistling Past the Graveyard, I Capture the Castle, Stones for Bread, Peace Like a River....

Some of these are Christian fiction (but I'm picky about those. I don't like sermonizing). Some of them are not overtly Christian, but share that worldview. I also like Kate Morton and Susanna Kearsley. There is some extra-marital romance in these books, but they aren't overly explicit (if I remember correctly). I can't stand repeated foul language, and I'm not into reading about other people's sex lives, fictional or not. I also have several good non-fiction recommends if anyone is interested.

Charmaine (wistad) | 23 comments Many of Debbie Macomber's books are on audio and they are clean. Also, if you like Regency era literature, Georgette Heyer's books are readily available on audio as well. Do you use your library's digital audio downloads or do you purchase your audio books?

Marlo - Thanks so much for posting all of these books. I think you and I have similar taste, I read and enjoyed Charles Martin, Kate Morton, Peace Like a River, Susanna Kearsley and I captured the castle. Therefore, I plan to check out the other books you listed! I agree 100% with what you write about the books you like to read. I would love any other suggestions you may have fiction or not. I read ALOT and I am always looking for a good book which seems hard to find at times as a "clean Read" Thank you - Jacalyn

Charmaine (wistad) | 23 comments I just finished the audio version of The Prayer Box by Lisa Wingate. This was a really good story and is 100% clean. That's a combination that is hard to find in modern novels, yes?

The Flipped Page (Susan K) (theflippedpage) | 48 comments I love Charles Martin! Will check the shelves thanks for the reminder!!

Bodie and Brock Thoene--everything from Westerns to early Christianity to Ireland to post WWI America to Europe in WWII. They won numerous awards for Twilight of Courage, an excellent novel about two journalists in Europe during the Nazi era. Also the Zion Chronicles and Zion Covenant series of novels-- one dealing with Jews caught in the events during the Nazi period and WWII ad the other with the Jews in pre and post Israeli statehood (1948 Israel.). Very well written. Bodie formerly wrote screenplays for John Wayne's production co. and her husband Brock has a degree in history.

Also Evidence of Mercy by Terri Blackstock--my favorite of all her books.

message 15: by Linda (new)

Linda Dietz | 1 comments My very favorite EVER series is Jan Karon's Mitford series. Father Tim will introduce you to a town filled with characters who can best be described as "when God made 'em, He threw away the mold." (We aren't told why, but we can guess!) The town itself is lovely and I bet you'll make friends quickly. When you have finished the last book in the Mitford series, you will be wishing you could pack up and go for a visit and perhaps not want to go home!

message 16: by Mirta (new)

Mirta Trupp | 80 comments I'd like to suggest this historical fiction/fantasy Becoming Malka

Clean throughout; this is an "educational, enlightening and entertaining" read. Perfect for teens and adults a like; this is a story of a young woman finding herself by connecting with her roots. Molly Abramovitz fears she lacks the admirable qualities of her ancestors: courage, faith, self-esteem. Take this journey with Molly as she treks through the past and finds the woman she was meant to become.

Don't forget to read the great reviews on Goodreads and Amazon.

message 17: by Ken (new)

Ken | 59 comments I just finished YA "romantic thriller", Desert Dark, by Sonja Stone. Not perfect, but fun and very readable. I don't recall any profanity or sex, but it has lots of action, including some mild (in my opinion) violence. It's all highly improbable (mention of a Gila monster as large as a person's thigh really had my eyes rolling) and predictable, but entertaining if you're not looking for gritty reality. As I recall, one reviewer described it as "Hogwarts meets the Bourne Identity," and that seemed like an apt description to me.

message 18: by Claudia (new)

Claudia Fabian | 8 comments Jewish, historical, speculative fiction Becoming Malka Loved, loved, loved this book! FINALLY- a Jewish protagonist-history, culture, fantasy- VALUES! Yes!

message 20: by Paula (new)

Paula Hunter | 2 comments I am a speculative fiction author. I write books suitable for YA/adult. I completed a fantasy fairytale trilogy this year. The trilogy contains mild swear words, sexual references, fade to black scenes and there is no graphic violence.
Here is my GR author profile: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Diane Rapp (dianerappauthor) | 95 comments Paula,

You should join my Sci-Fi and Fantasy tweet group! We support each other through retweets. http://bit.ly/2nsxR5z

I also write "clean" speculative fiction where even the battle scenes have no graphic violence. That's hard but it's what I enjoy reading. We should share read/reviews.

Just found Georgette Heyer. Really enjoying so far; I second this. If you have the Romance Package on Audible which contains a fair amount of unattractive smut, a number of Heyer's books are part of the package including Arabella and The Great Sophy.

Love all the Heyer ones on the audiobooks. they are done really well.

Cathleen | 11 comments Marlo, I have read several of the books you mentioned. I went to search for Whistling Past the Graveyard and found 5 Authors for this title. Which is the one you recommend?

message 28: by Cathleen (new)

Cathleen | 11 comments I’m guessing Susan Crandall! That looks like one I would like.

message 29: by Marlo (new)

Marlo | 19 comments I'm sorry I missed your comment. The Susan Crandall book was correct.
