The movie: Anatomy of a Murder directed by Otto Preminger starring James Stewart (as the defense attorney) among others is based on the real murder of Maurice "Mike" Chenoweth by US Army lieutenant Coleman Peterson. In the movie, Joseph N. Welch plays Judge Weaver.

What is Joseph N. Welch's real life claim to fame?

Fishface | 18959 comments He once represented the U.S. Army when it was under investigation by HUAC for un-American activity. Or did he do something more interesting than that once?

HUZZAH HUZZAH!

He is speaker of the famous quote Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"

A week later McCarthy was officially censured and the paranoia he inspired died down. He died 3 years later in Bethesda, Maryland, on May 2, 1957. His death certificate listed the cause of death as "Hepatitis, acute, cause unknown".
