A couple of things to keep in mind:

✸ Communication is key. Please make sure to check in regularly with your team.

✸ Let your team know if it looks like you won't get your review posted by Thursday, 11:59pm. You do have all of Friday to submit your review, but it can be intensely frustrating for your captain if they don't know when or if they can expect your review before the deadline.

✸ If you know beforehand that you won't be able to read and review a book during a certain week, you can request a pre-arranged absence from me, either by posting the request in the discussion thread or by sending me a pm. The request has to be submitted before the team rolls for the week in question, can only be approved by me as the mod in charge of running the game, and has to state a reason for the absence. (Reasons for pre-arranged absences can include e.g. going on vacation or work trips, planned hospital stays, exam period, etc.)

✸ If you do not have a pre-arranged absence and won't be able to finish your book in time for an unforeseen reason, please let your team know as soon as possible. If the team has earned the free pass, it can be used to cover the missing review. Without a free pass, the team has to sit out the next roll.

✸ We all know that real life gets in the way sometimes, be it through family emergencies, work emergencies, natural disasters, technical problems making it impossible to get online, or in other ways. That being said, please do keep in mind that this is a team challenge and your team relies on you to do your part unless an emergency occurs.

✸ If you find that the pressure of keeping up with the pace of the game gets too much for you or you wish to stop playing for any other reason, you can drop out of the challenge at any time. In that case, please let your team captain and/or me know that you wish to drop out rather than just disappearing without a word so your team won't be penalized when you fail to turn in your review. Thank you!

Captain's Handbook

✸ The team's captain is its chief organizer. This includes rolling the dice, posting the team's new spot to the team thread and the Post Your Spot thread, collecting links to team members' review posts in a single post to be linked in the Post Your Spot thread, doublechecking that books and review posts comply with requirements, reminding team members to post their reviews in time if necessary, etc.

✸ The captain may delegate some tasks, such as rolling and posting the new spot to the team thread, to another team member if they so choose. (Either a designated roller who fulfills this role every week, or whichever team member is online first once rolling is possible.) Collecting reviews into a single post and posting to the Post Your Spot thread should always be handled by the captain.

✸ Instead of having everything handled by a single team captain, teams can also choose two co-captains to handle the workload.

✸ Selection posts are not strictly required by the game's rules and I won't be checking for them. It's up to the team captain to decide whether they want them.

✸ If the team captain requests a pre-arranged absence, it's their responsibility to arrange for another team member to step in as temporary captain.

✸ The team captain is my primary point of contact for the team and should allow receiving private messages.

Melanie (mvalente89) | 621 comments So it looks like we're still waiting on one more to check in.

And it appears we need a captain who will handle our rolls and such. Is there anyone who wants to do that? I've never played before, so I don't think it should be me.

Does anyone have suggestions for teams names? I see a lot of teams are doing a play on the number of their team name. So in our case that would be 4 if anyone has any ideas.

Review:
I just found a new author to read! I loved this book. It was a quick fun story. India is a bridesmaid for her childhood friend Olivia, who comes from money!! India’s brother, Mark has loved Olivia and learns that she is getting married.

Mark crashes a 4th of July party at Olivia’s parents house. All he wants to do is talk to Olivia. He asks her to meet him at Martin, a local college. This is where things turn bad for Mark and India’s family.

Mark finds Olivia in a fountain on Martin's campus. Mark is the number 1 suspect in the murder of Olivia!

Who murdered Olivia? That is what India has to solve in Maid of Murder!!

This was so disappointing. I just didn't like any of the characters.
Ceejay Lovejoy just comes across as so angry and it just wasn't endearing to her. I get she was pissed but it wasn't Noah's fault or his family's fault.
I just got very bored of the hostile conversation all the time.

Review:

If someone had told me that in this season of my life I would be living in a little ranch house all by myself with just a couple of ornery goats as company, I would have laughed.

Millie Fisher has come back to Harvest, Ohio after being away for ten years taking care of her sister. Known as the Amish matchmaker, Millis is distressed that her niece, Edith, has chosen a most unsuitable man. Millie slips in sleuth mode when Edith's fiancé is found dead in her greenhouse.

Although this is a new series it felt like home. It was nice to be able to visit in Harvest and see the townspeople that we know from the candy shop series. Millie is a very likeable character that I would consider a friend and want to spend time with. I always enjoy learning about the Amish community. Being from the South, this is not a group that I have had exposure to in real life.

Amanda Flower includes the best animals in her books and Millie's Boer goats are no exception. Phillip and Peter are mischievous scallywags that I fell in love with. I didn't think she could top Jethro, the spotted pig, but she certainly did. Their antics are so very typical of goats and they made me smile. The mama cat with kittens gave me all the feels as well. (Crazy cat lady here)

Millie's reunion with her childhood friend, Lois was an excellent part of the story. I really enjoyed that although Lois is a four times married Englisch woman that she and Millie still have a close connection. Lois is loud, abrasive and proud. There were times that I wanted to cheer for her.

The mystery was well done. I had suspicions early on who may have been behind the murder and was actually sad when I was correct.

This is a delightful addition to the Harvest, Ohio stories and I look forward to reading the next book soon.

Review
Falcio is the leader ofthe Greatcoats, a group of travelling Magisters upholding the kings law. Now the king is dead and the Greatcoats are hated. They are trying to fulfill a final mission for the king that they promised him before he was killed.
The story is told in first person perspective from the point of view of Falcio. It is also told in dual timeline where we find out how it all begun, and the situation they are in now. It is a fun series with very good fight scenes. You get to know the characters and their background, especially Falcio's, and you get the feeling that this is a group of people that are close. I liked the first book and I think there is good potential for the rest of the series, but it was not something super original. It was good enough for me to continue and see how the rest of the series is. If someone is looking for a fun adventure with a lot of action, I think they might enjoy this book.

Review:
The Night Agent was a fast-paced, thrilling read with an intriguing plot.

FBI Agent Peter Sutherland was surprised when he was picked to work in the White House Situation Room given his family's sordid history. His job? To work the night shift monitoring an emergency line for a call that may never come. But one night, the phone finally rings and it sets Peter on a path to discovering a conspiracy that goes to the highest levels of the White House. On the hunt to find the traitor and clear his own name, Peter must evade the FBI, the Secret Service, and a team of deadly Russian operatives if he hopes to make it out of the situation alive.

Peter was an intriguing character and I liked him from the start. His father was a section chief in FBI counterintelligence when he was accused of selling secrets to the Russians which ruined his reputation and ultimately cost him his life. Peter has lived under the shadow of his father's actions his entire life and as a result has always followed the rules, doesn't ask questions, and tries to fly under the radar. Before taking the job at the White House, Peter worked in surveillance which left him with a unique set of skills that certainly came in handy after he went on the run. Throughout the investigation Peter works with Rose, the woman who called the emergency line. I enjoyed Rose's character and I liked her ability to adapt to the tough situations her and Peter found themselves in. There's a scene where Peter teaches her about surveillance that I particularly enjoyed as it showcased both of their skills.

The deaths of Rose's aunt and uncle are what sets in motion the events of this book. The two were involved in investigating a conspiracy related to the White House which put them in possession of a red ledger that detailed meetings between the mole and the Russians. We actually find out the identity of the mole fairly early on in the book which was surprising as I expected the author to keep us guessing for longer. But, I think it was a good choice as I enjoyed watching Peter and Rose figure out who the person was as well as having to change their strategy because of it. Ultimately Peter and Rose are framed for some of the mole's crimes and the pair go on the run which upped the suspense factor in the book as you were never sure if they were going to get caught. The pacing in the book was fantastic and there was just enough action to keep things interesting. I enjoyed the way the plot wrapped up and thought the ending was a good one.

Overall The Night Agent was a fantastic read and I would highly recommend it if you're a fan of political thrillers. I definitely plan to pick up more books from the author in the future.

The editing problem seems to be universal. You can go ahead and roll once all your reviews are in and take care of the rest later.

Melanie (mvalente89) | 621 comments I'm either going to go with Proof of Murder or Magic Bleeds for this roll. Both are #4 in a series, so I'll do a selection post once I've decided which one I'm going to pick.

Proof of Murder (Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery #4) by Lauren Elliott Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, #4) by Ilona Andrews

Just an FYI, the editing bug may not be fixed for awhile. GR is aware of the problem and working on a fix, but have no time frame for when that will be done. See below on the Help page (3rd answer down).

So you may need to make a new post if they aren't going to have it fixed right away.
