Rolf Rudolph Deutsch is going to die. But when Deutsch, a wealthy magazine and newpaper publisher, starts thinking seriously about his impending death, he offers to pay a physicist and two mediums, one physical and one mental, $100,000 each to establish the facts of life after death.

Dr. Lionel Barrett, the physicist, accompanied by the mediums, travel to the Belasco House in Maine, which has been abandoned and sealed since 1949 after a decade of drug addiction, alcoholism, and debauchery. For one night, Barrett and his colleagues investigate the Belasco House and learn exactly why the townfolks refer to it as the Hell House.

I will have to find a copy of this book because none of my library books don't have this book. Even though they said they did, so I am not happy at all.

I was able to get this book and will start it soon. I am going to try and finish Amityville Horror first.

I'll start this one this afternoon! I can't wait! These lack of notifications are irritating.

I know I'm late but I'd love to join you for this one as I'm wanting to read ALL the horror books right now. I'm hoping to finish up The Exorcist and then get into this one :)

How are you liking The Exorcist?

24% (view spoiler)[ I am really getting into this now and I don't want to put it down. I wonder who is going to be the first to dead or go insane. I don't fully trust Fischer nor Barrett and I don't know why. I do think everyone is hiding something that might get them hurt. (hide spoiler)]

Just found out they made a movie from this book called The Legend of Hell House. Now I have to see if I can find it.

This had such an interesting beginning. I loved learning more about (view spoiler)[these opposing characters forced together in the house. (hide spoiler)]

I'm not sure I trust ANY of them! I was immediately sucked into this one. I'm listening via audio whilst I do some odd tasks and I really don't want to stop listening so I'm just finding things to do now, haha.

First quarter - (view spoiler)[This had such a strong start. The history of this house's owner and his guests was pretty chilling and I'm intrigued to see if the present-day inhabitants start to mirror past events. (hide spoiler)]

Second quarter - (view spoiler)[This is definitely a case of 'I should have read other reviews before starting this book'. The pornographic occurrences are increasing when I was anticipating purely traditional scenes of hauntings. I'm not not enjoying this one, but it is very different to the horror I was anticipating. It is also difficult to find the presence terrifying when it gets bossed around and reacts in anger by stealing bed clothes, slamming doors, and biting boobs when told off. It seems like a very petulant ghost! (hide spoiler)]

Third quarter - (view spoiler)[I'm enjoying this less as I continue with it. The relentless sexist and 'sexy' scenes are rather draining now. I am interested to see if Daniel exists or is a figment of imagination and, if he does exist, if his father is the villain or he is. (hide spoiler)]

Fourth quarter - (view spoiler)[I was so engaged with the first quarter but this interest has lessened with each chapter. The male gaze made me feel ill and I found none of this was horrifying, which is what I was hoping for. The events felt almost like a satire of the horror genre and I ended up really disliking everything about this. I listened to most on 2.75 speed as I just wanted to get through it. It would have been a definite DNF if I wasn't taking part in this BR.

I get what you mean about the *ahem* adult sections but as someone who's read quite a bit of King it didn't bother me as much as I expected. But it really wasn't necessary for the story imo, at least not as in detail as it was.

Aw, I'm sorry it was such a bad experience for you :( It certainly wasn't a favourite for me but I was intrigued all the way to the end as I kept wanting to know what was next.

I read a lot of King too but it really bothered me here, for some reason. Maybe it was listening to the audio that ruined it for me and I would have been able to gloss over them better with a physical edition.

I 100% agree that the adult time wasn't necessary. And now I can't stop picturing an adult throwing a toddler tantrum, that made me laugh.

I had this high rated but the more I thought about I moved it to 3 stars. I couldn't really pinpoint what I really didn't like about the book but it just felt off to me. I will try to pick I Am Legend that is by the same author.
