I reread this to develop the questions (thought I could just skim) and realized the prequel had me looking at the team very differently.
Overall I loved this book-Kim and her team are unique and I think the series will bring a lot more insight into each of them.
I loved the ending when Bryant stopped by to ride Kim's bike only to find out she sold it. She did it to give Lucy access to more technology and freedom. Kim has a heart even if she doesn't show it often.
I loved that! It almost made me cry.
I believe Kim has a big heart. She just puts up barriers to protect it.

I would to after everything she has been thru.
I also like how Woody plays a part in her past and future
I agree Jonetta. When I realized what she did I almost cried too.Shelby Woody does his best to protect her without letting everyone know it.
Oh, Woody has made it his personal mission to be her protector for life. I love how he does it...a bit of affection with some tough love.
Oh my, I didn't link those two things together. Just wow, there is so much more to Kim than meets the eye. And I guess we'll see more and more of this as the series progresses.

Agreed - thanks for making the prequel the first book for us to read. It provides so much insight and background into the interactions of the team. I'm hoping to see more about Dawson and Stacey in future books and assume that there will be more.
I love this series (I've read up to book #10 already), and am glad you are all enjoying it. It only gets better!I plan on popping in to comment but only on those questions that won't give away any spoilers - of which there are many to come!
Appreciate you joining us, Lauren! It’s hard to do when there’s a big time difference in when you’ve last read the book.
Lynn, I’m glad you found the prequel valuable, too.

I am so glad I read the prequel before the first book. It was interesting to see how the team originally came together and learn about Woody’s relationship with Kim. It seems to me that Kim has a heart for those that are underdogs and people that need a second chance.
Like many of you, I'm glad we read the prequel first. We got to know the team very well and understand what makes them tick. I was a little disappointed that we really didn't have scenes in this book from the team member's POV. The only exception I noticed was when Stacey figured out that Wilks was the killer. I'd like to get into their heads too as the series goes on.I was surprised when the people showed up at William Payne's door with machines to help his daughter communicate. I was so happy (and surprised) that Kim had sold her bike to pay for the equipment.
Now that you mention it, Robin, we did miss getting the team’s points of view. And, it’s possible that the prequel might be the exception going forward.
Robin wrote: "I'm crossing my fingers that we'll get move POVs from the team as the series goes on."This is actually Marsons' first book; she wrote the prequel 4 years after the first 9 books were published. She has grown and changed as a writer, and I think the tone and style of the prequel reflect this.
