Okay so I JUST finished "A Reaper at the Gates" and am now starting SOC. (so sorry the election has stressed me out so I have been reading less quickly!)

I've been reading, too! My favorite character is Nina. I've read this before, so....

I'm loving Nina so far.

I'm reading it right now (and btw Petite Draig, its chill read this whenever you have time) and I am not the most invested but I do like Inej. (From the few pages I've read.)

I'm not very invested either, and I'm not liking Kaz as much as other people, but Nina is perfect. I've read this before, so. Biased.

I got this book because it is hyped EVERYWHERE but the more I looked at the book on my shelf the more apprehensive I got. I'm actually doing this buddy read so that I am more motivated to read it. Hopefully, it gets better!

Honestly, it's waaaay overhyped. It's not that special. It's just a heist.

I wonder why so many people thought "wow I should talk about this all the time" because even today people recommend it regularly in their videos. I will try to keep an open mind but I like books when they're good not just because everyone talks about them..

I rated it two stars the first time. It's probably a three star this time around

Right now this is projected to be a 2 star for me, but we shall see! YES I have to idea why everyone loves this book so much

I think it is still Inej but I do like Nina

I don't like Inej because she's basically a rock. I don't think she really has a personality besides being the wRaItH or whatever.

I'm on Chapter 24 lmao. I'm taking a break to let you catch up. And because it's time for the heist, and that's my least favorite part. Kaz is stupid in that part.

I'll read a good chunk day (I will update you when I am up to chapter 24) sorry for reading so slowly! Normally I read faster but this election and being kinda sick yesterday delayed me! (don't worry I'm good now but today will be a catch-up day.) :)

Don't worry!! Normally I'm the slow reader. I just had a head start because the other buddy read started a couple of days earlier.

It probably is supposed to be Amsterdam.. there are also a lot of Russia mentions

Ugh duh. 😤🙄 I like the way it's written so far though. Is it at least kind of realistic on the portrayals or is it stereotypical? Russia is such a pitfall for stereotypes...

It probably is stereotypical, but I don't really care because of how terrible Russia is.. (I mean considering the fact that there are a lot of cliches in this book this is probably one of them)

Well, yeah, Russia is kind of terrible, but there are probably nice people there who don't like what's going on, and those deserve better...but that's off topic, haha. I hope I don't hate the stereotypes too much, otherwise this will be another addition to the unreadables pile...how are you liking it though? 😊

I'm about halfway through now. It's actually not that bad...

The Grisha trilogy is very stereotypical. This book does better with the cultures, except for Fjerda, which is a huge stereotype.

I'm actually not that upset anymore. After finishing the book, I sort of like both of them...

But that name, Kaz, is just awful. I like his last name though. Why did you give two stars? At least there was no insta love or triangles.
