The motif for December is Sugar, Spice, Everything Nice

"Holiday or winter themed reads, love stories and romances, happy cries, comedies; round out your year with a truly feel good read."

Cecil Huston | 234 comments Okay, this is a real challenge for me. I tried looking over cozy mysteries and other Christmas stories, and just can’t get into sappy and silly for a genre. Great for some, not my cup of tea. (Will take suggestions, but please, good writing is a must!) Until I find something better, currently planning on reading The Father Christmas Letters by J.R.R. Tolkien by J.R.R. Tolkien. Just have to wait for it to come back into the library, put on hold.

Tari (thann) Just a fun and festive murder mystery, cute town having a Christmas lights contest, kinda Hallmarky in description.

I would say then do the "winter themed" part - think either has a winter setting, winter in the title or winter theme on the cover. Not sure if you like Fantasy - if you do Spinning Silver and The Bear and the Nightingale are excellent.

Elizabeth Turlington | 15 comments Challenge complete! I read Hercule Poirot’s Christmas. This was my first Agatha Christie novel and it was a really enjoyable read, definitely didn’t see that twist ending!

Thanks for the tips! Coincidentally, Spinning Silver is by the author of Uprooted, a book my daughter talked me into reading a few years ago. I've added both to my TBR pile, for future use. I'm going to wait for the one I mentioned to come off hold at my library, since I've already requested it. Merry Christmas!

Joosje | 54 comments The Little Christmas Shop on Nutcracker Lane by Jaimie Admans I read The litle Christmas shop on Nutcracker Lane, a very festive read that had me feeling Christmassy. Challenge complete

Cecil Huston | 234 comments Challenge complete! Finished The Father Christmas Letters by J.R.R. Tolkien, a short book of mostly pictures. What a wonderful tradition he did for his children! And such creativity! It was a fun change.

Challenge Complete! I read Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano. It's a rom-com and mystery at the same time. It was a light fun read as the main character is a bit of a mess - and certainly got herself in some messy situations.

Simone (simonec75) I chose this one for December. I usually don't care too much about romantic novels, but I really enjoyed this one a lot!

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren

Oh, you will love Spinning Silver if you liked Uprooted.

I read this one too. Not my normal genre of choice but I liked it.

Rom coms usually only work for me if there's a mystery involved.
