PLEASE NOTE:

PIFM is meant to be FUN and not to be taken seriously. I would appreciate it if all participants just chilled and not get worked up about voting, who votes, who doesn't, etc. Please bear in mind that some will just want to vote, many don't come on everyday and most of us have time constraints. I just want a relaxed approach to it all and for you all to just enjoy the process! I'd really appreciate your courtesy in this matter. Many thanks.

Has anyone voted in the GR Choice Award and/or read a book on it that's amazing?

I did a lot of write-ins. But, no, no amazings. Last amazing book I read was Against the Loveless World by Susan Abulhawa

My list and my votes are up. Where is everyone?

Of all the books nominated in the Choice Awards, I’ve only read two. I don’t feel qualified to vote, and unlike Kirsten, I don’t feel the need to do any research that would allow me to write in other titles. I feel kind of meh about it this year.

I haven't read any of the Choice books so don't feel qualified to vote.

I have put up my list for December. I also have voted for everyone. So please pick the best series for me to start the new year off with.

I only vote for books I have read (or are reading like The Sun Down Motel). It is weird. Every year I try to read more new releases and every year I am surprised to see how many are not on lists.

I wish the "humor" section wasn't totally populated by celebrity books. But I do still go through and vote. It is interesting to see what fiction, mystery, horror, and sci-fi I have missed in the year.

I like to vote whether I've read them or not-and I haven't read the vast majority. Must be why I like PIFM voting haha.I tend to go with authors I know. I bet others do the same and that's why some stinkers win. Kirsten are you liking Sun Down?

I wonder if the lack luster response is due to the general malaise of this year? I'd be interested in favorite books of the year not necessarily new releases...

I've read some good ones this year including - Rise Above the Truth & Shoes for Anthony. They were both genre's to which that I don't normally gravitate but they were definitely 5 star reads.

Tonya, I’ve read three of the series you listed, and I had a hard time picking one for you. Each has their merits, but they’re so different. The Mermaids Singing is pretty violent. I wanted to pick that one for you because it’s excellent, but I don’t know how you feel about violence in the books you read.

Perri, books I’ve read this year that I think are exceptional include Nothing More Dangerous by Allen Eskens, Orbital by F.X. Holden, and Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy.

Well, in order to answer Perri’s post, I basically researched my Read books for the Choice awards. So I went back and changed my vote in the Fiction category to Migrations, which I had to write in. Thank you, Perri and Kirsten for unknowingly kicking my ass into gear.

@Brenda, that's fine if want to change your vote you can. It doesn't really matter. I own all the the first books in these series and can get the rest from the library.. I will end up reading all these series. I just wanted help choosing which one to read first...

Patricia, Shoes for Anthony looks so good, but I'd have to do an ILL for it since it's not at my Library or available on Overdrive

Brenda, I have Nothing More Dangerous already on my TBR list, so I'll move it up. I added Migrations, but it sounds so sad, I may have to hold it for a happier time. Do you think it would also work in the Sci Fi category? I think I will write it in there, since there weren't any others I've read. I see a lot of my friends rated it highly.

Tonya, after Brenda's warning how do you feel about Mermaids? I've read some violent books I loved and some I've hated and have to try and figure out what makes the difference?!

I am! Quite a bit. I loved her previous book too: The Broken Girls

I loved The Broken Girls...I'm just waiting for my library to get The Sun Down Motel in. It's on back log here...I'm waiting so patiently...lol

Ladies, Migrations is now in the semi-round! Now I have a problem, because there are several in that category I like.

I really enjoyed My Lovely Wife. It was told in a different perspective by the husband and I thought it was great.

I also finished a book! I think it was from May, Fragile. It was good, but not great for me. It took me such a long time to get through it.

If you look under your original comment there are green words that say reply edit delete
You click edit and add what you want then Click EDIT POST

I think if you are on the app though it doesn't allow you. So go to the website.

Ugh....I didn't realize that there was no other way to edit comments other than an actual desktop/laptop!! Neither of which I own b/c I have a smartphone and a Kindle Fire. Thank God my Mother in Law was giving away her old tablet. Short story, sorry it took so long to enter votes

Technically, you could probably do it on your Kindle Fire. But not as easily as with a PC. It's funny, my previous job was secretary so I am much more comfortable with an actual keyboard than using 1 finger at a time.

I just got home from the hospital after chest surgery. My doctor informed me that during his research he has used cells from Henrietta Lacks. I asked him if he had read the book and he said, no. I just bought it for him as a gift . It is the least I could do for an outstanding psoriatic surgeon. He said researchers throughout the world are still using her cells.

Wow, Patricia! What a nice thing to do for your doctor! I'm glad you're home and recuperating. Get well soon!

I am recuperating nicely sitting on my duff. He told me to do absolutely nothing but arrived home to a sink full of dirty dishes. Oh well....I have a volunteer to clean it all up today. I can't even cook the Thanksgiving dinner. I guess it will be OK to supervise though.

He suggested motrin as a pain killer but I mentioned that I preferred a glass of wine. Since my pain threshold is good, the wine sounds good to him.

Patricia... I'm so glad everything went well in the Hospital and you seem to be recuperating well. I know it's hard to take it easy and watch all those little annoyances go on around you (dirty dishes, vacuuming undone, fingerprints on glass etc.), but remember, your health and recovery are the most important thing right now. I wish you a speedy recovery and you are in my prayers.
